Earthymoon ā€” Zakkiyah in a painting

Description Zakkiyah is a good friend of mine. If you saw the two of us side by side you would think we have nothing in common. However we are almost always on the same wavelength.
When you see her beautiful head wraps you might think "Afro-centric", or "Nubian Princess". When you take the time to know her you see she celebrates ALL of her roots including Midwestern America.

I converted this image to sepia and added brush strokes. I felt the silhouette of this image was beautiful and the artistic conversions allowed it to sing.

Corey Anna,

Out of the three images you posted in your blog this one by far works the best. It is a beautiful image to start with, but this one has more of the painterly quality you are going for. The others seem too forced and fake. I would use this as a standard or starting point for now. I know it is a process to get these things figured out but you have done a great with this one.

The only think I would suggest changing here is the prominent glow that is around her. I like it, but right now I feel that it is too heavy and I would tone it down. This is something that is more of a personal call though; it's not like it's a focus problem or something like that. e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/sā€¦ " width="15" height="15" alt="" title=" (Smile)"/>

Good luck and keep it up!

Bry

Thank you so much for your input. It's greatly appreciated! I've been really wanting some feedback on these images. Thank you for taking the time to critique.
I agree with you that this is the best image. I will try to keep pulling techniques from this image in future projects.
You are not the first one to mention the halo. I've played with it a few times but I really like it.....lol. Maybe I should revisit it.

No problem, it was my pleasure!

The halo really is a personal thing. I know some professionals who have been in the business for 30+ years who like to vignette to the shape of the subject so it gives that halo effect. If you like, then keep it. If you have heard a lot of people suggest otherwise, then maybe just tone it down but still keep it. It's your artwork so it's up to you! As my professors would say, if you can defend it, then it can stay.

I really appreciate that. I really worked hard on that image. I've really been wanting to convert some of my photos into a painting like image. Something surreal without looking over worked. I think I have the technique down but it's nice to hear other people's input.
