Description this one is actually a sketch i did for a friend. she was bugging me forever to do something in her sketchbook. and she didnt even care what i drew..she said draw anything.

so i decided on a fairy. this one was like heaven...i felt like i was flying. when u get to make something up, theres no real right and wrong. i was like, hey, lets make her nose more pointy...and her eyes wider..and i just let my hand go wherever it landed.

the only thing that might bug some ppl like marc silverstri...he is a stickler when it comes to composition and in this picture, its COMPLETELY wrong and he would frown upon this drawing....but thats exactly why i did it...cause its wrong. and i like it....but again i dont recomend breaking rules...unless u know why ur breaking them.

All your drawings are so f'ing awesome! I've just one question: Don't you make any preparatory drawings before? I can't believe someone creates pictures like this without any sketching in the pic. O_o

i'm not sure what all you mean by composition but personally, i think art is your own expression and you shouldn't be ruled to as to how you express yourself. i dont mean go run through the streets nude but you're experssing yourself but you get my point. this fairy is absolutely amazing and your own little tweaks to the standard line for fairies made it all the better. FAVE!!!

The basic premise of this drawing, I love. I'm on the hunt for a good coloured fairy to get as a back piece and since I love the macabre this strikes my interest. Good work!

I LOOOOOOOOOOVE it... it seems like you're pretty uncomfortable about approval about the composition... but I've always thought that (although composition is very important) art is something created as a means to express, and in turn, evoke emotions. Composition can be an important human element to a piece, even when that composition makes the viewer a little uncomfortable perhaps. I think it is beautiful and, like many viewers before me have said, interesting.

What is goin on with her wings dude? Although I do really like her nose and ears! You should make "different shaped" women more often, I love it when you do!

well if you think about it theres never a right or wrong when it comes to drawing a mythical creature, who knows maybe its eyes are large maybe fairies are improportionate little people no one knows therefor its not wrong, that is the beauty of drawing fairies!

I don't see creativity as breaking the rules when it comes to art. In fact, I think most people get so concern about how something SHOULD look, that they forget about imagination, and creativity. This is truly artistic work.

I'm not usually into fairies. but you've convinced the fuccckkkk out of me with this 8] hahaa.

I enjoyed reading about your freedom with this piece too 8] i can see it when i look at it, and it works.

I haven't gotten to the point where i feel that free with what i draw and getting results like this.

P.S. this is amazing

im not into fairies either...they seem to be something woman idealize and turned them into their hero's or rep's for their feminism

but they are hot and i love the freedom to create anything i wanted

part of the journey to freedom is getting rid of the fear..fear of messing up holds u back

I think the composition is very strong. Maybe not exactly in you field of art but as far as mine goes it's a lovely composition. As a graphic designer we are told that the middle is boring. I believe it is the same with photographers, So for me, this is ten times more interesting than if she were sitting on a log smack dab in the middle of the page.

I say kudo's for doing something different than what you are used to, it turned about beautifully!

maybe in an illustrative sense the composition is wrong, but if you would be looking at from a fine arts point of view, the composition is fine
its not a straight top left to bottom right composition, the opposite actually, wich makes it harder for the eye to exit the picture and keep it moving more, and the main focal point is not directly in the center, which makes it more interesting to look at

i always thought the "put the focal point in the center" way to do it was always pretty boring cause there's not much to challenge the viewer, itsjust all layed out for them
i realize i probably used to do that a lot, but not so much any more, especially in schoolwork, lol, my professors would tear me apart

lol, yeay for breaking rules.

i agree, its better know the rules..then break them then to just do something and realize later that you broke them..but its always a great feeling when you just let yourself go and do whatever. i try to do that at least once a month on my drawings. i think it really helps you figure out how far in creativity you are and or how insane you are. ^^D depending on the drawing. but awesome work! love the pose and the way you did her eyes and hair!

i love this one because of the way you can see the ideas coming as you were going with the sketch. i love doing sketches like these because even the artist doesn't know the outcome of the piece. i can't wait to see what else you come up with along the way.

I believe a successful composition is comprised of all the elements of the image working in harmony to lead the eye around the image and not solely to a specific point.

The wings are a perfect example of this. It's a great drawing, very creative and detailed. Love it!

u misunderstand me..im not saying i messed up on the compisition...i chose to ignore it on purpose, thats y i didnt crop this image to show my intent.

to push ur eye as far to the right as possible

If i ever imagined what a REAL fairy would look like...that's how i think it would look.
Composition? Correct me if i'm wrong, but is that like...depth in shadow and stuff or...? I was never good with terms. lol

ebas In reply to LadyHellFyre [2008-08-21 15:06:25 +0000 UTC]

think of a movie poster...the main actor( or story telling part of the image) is always in the center and anything else around the actor is kinda suppost to frame him, or help from him as to lead ur eye to the center.

there nothing in the center of this drawing, thats y its wrong.
