This is Kimba/Jungle Emporer Leo "The Lion sleeps tonight" One of my fav childhood characters from the Japanese Anime TV series Kimba the White Lion. He's cute, Adorable, and very fun to draw. Original drawing was a line art, (see gallery) but colored in Photoshop and background added.Related content

I've seen a few video's related to that controversy, and when I very first saw the original Lion King, having already been a fan of Kimba the White Lion, I immediately saw the connection. One of my favorite scenes in Kimba, was where he was swimming home and see's his dead mother in the stars... so naturally, all that talk about his ancestors in the stars... and then the clouds later forming into his fathers image.... The silliness of the hyena's, and the uncle with the scar over his eye... but what really gave me the clear connection was... when they zero'ed in on Simba's feet running across the desert... compared to the many times I'd seen Kimba's feet doing the same. If Disney thinks we are all fools, they are wrong! Having said all that, I love the Lion King, I just wish it acknowledged it's predecessor, and honored it's original creator. If Disney can't do that... with my humble artwork, I sure can! TY for comment trc.

Well, there is some speculation that it could've been a Jungle Emperor adaptation early on, but had to change it due to licensing issues.

Well it's not really speculation, because early concept art with a white lion cub, and a letter from Walt Disney mentioning Kimba, not Simba, kind of prooved the theory to be correct. With the sad death of Osamu Tezuka, the creator of Kimba, perhaps they couldn't get the licencing? but why not get it form his relatives or publishers instead? He deserved the credit, and the royalties associated with it. But truth is, I dont think Money was his motivating in creating animation. The Japanese are just such amazing, forgiving people. They will over look things that the western world would full on rage at, up to, and including, the bombing of Hiroshima! Their focus on life just isn't the same as ours. <3
