Description The YT-3800 Light Freighter addressed complaints made about the bulky appearance of the YT-3700.   It entered production in 29ABY and after a slow start, ended up much more popular than its predecessor.   The 3800 has a streamlined design and reflects the philosophy of Corellian Engineering Corporation (CEC)  in the New Republic era to keep as much wiring, hoses and electrical conduits off the exterior of the ship to minimize damage due to meteorites or laser cannon fire.   The armor of the 3800 was lighter than the 3700, but still moderately stronger than the YT-1300 series which was considered an all-time classic in design by New Republic times.    The center mounted cockpit is slightly elevated and the magnetic cargo clamps in the mandibles enable larger cargo containers to be transported.    The ship has two escape pods and is 45 meters in length, making it one of the larger members of the YT series.    It has a class 1 hyperdrive and a class 9 back-up drive.    A crew of 2 or 3 was standard, though a single pilot could fly the ship.   It had a cargo capacity of 100 metric tons.   It had a cargo freight elevator and boarding ramp.   The added length of the ship allowed for slightly more generous crew quarters and it handled surprisingly well for its size, due to advanced engineering and dual maneuvering thrusters similar to those used in the heavier 3700 series.   The advanced features made it rather pricey at 200,000 credits, and during the years that CEC was controlled by the First Order, the ships only sold marginally well.   After the First Order's defeat and the liberation of the CEC from their control, Corellian Engineering Corporation reduced the price thanks to a cut in mandatory taxes that had been required by the First Order, which dropped the YT-3800 down to 175,000 credits, a price point that made it sell extremely well, restoring CEC's status and taking the company out of the red, financially.
