Back during Earth's colonization, Homeworld would use Moonstones to scavenge for anything useful, or even areas for kindergartens!

But with them being out by themselves or with squads of 3-5, they were easy targets for the crystal gems to poof and bubble them. Eventually, Homeworld slowly ran out of the right materials to make as much moonstones as the used to, they became much more rares, so Homeworld had to give them a different purpose.

Your average Moonstone on Homeworld is usually under blue Diamonds court, and is the manager of gems w/ large quantities, such as quartz's or rubies... (Sapphires if they are lucky)

(also, I totally forgot to draw Moonstone's star, so I had to edit it on with Photoshop)
