What happened to Clara there? Was she teleported away or was she destroying herself - or being damaged by fighting the programming? Regardless of which it was, it's a powerful scene - and I liked the panel of silence where we see her reaction to the disappearance - pulling back to a wide angle shot like that was very effective.

She teleported at the last moment. Far enough way to allow YellowJacket enough time to make her getaway.

At the last moment before what? I'm not exactly clear what the funky smoke effect was - was it the build up to teleporting or something nasty happening?

The moment before they regained control of her mind. That smoke effect is just energy residue left behind. Kinda like Nightcrawler from X-Men, his is like an inky/soot substance.
