Description This 8-inch insectivorous Carboniferite shows traits of both amphibians and amniotes...but it was an amphibian, so don't scream "MISSING LINK" like so many of the sensationalist news journalists too *coughDarwiniuscough*

Watch me

P.S. this critter's name means "True Creature from the Black Lagoon", but I don't think anything under a foot can ever succeed a 6-foot manphibian.

Is it likely to be a cousin/ancestor of amniotes, or do people think the similarities are more likely to be convergent?

There is a bit of controversy on that one, but most agree that it was ancestral to some of the most primitive temnospondyl amphibians, and that the amniotic traits are just convergent, as the adaptations of the shoulder girdle seem to point to the Eucritta being adapted for land-walking, so the amniote similarities can be explained by that. Wonderful question though, and thanks for commenting!
