Here's Windhook, my first kaiju for a contest online. For him I wanted to create the kind of flying kaiju I grew up seeing when I was little, making use of a lot of the old-fashioned features I used to love. I wanted to use what Guillermo Del Toro calls "the Nakajima factor", where the design remains within the limits of a wearable suit. I figured he'd be blind, seeing only through sonar, but I wanted a crest that suggested an eye with its profile. I gave him bright contrasting colors and a sly grin like a crocodile, suggesting malevolence.
