I still struggle with color and value. It's like my brain isn't wired to handle that stuff. As per suggestion from Hong Li over at characterdesigns.com and Gnomon, I did this entirely in value first (black and white), and dropped in the colors on an overlay. So how did it turn out? I'm not sure. Even after cheating and using the Levels control to punch things out a bit, it still seems a little too muddy. Of course, he's supposed to look a little muddy. Maybe it's just that background gradient that's not working. Hmmm.... must think...***Tweaked the levels a bit more. Quick fix, but it looks a bit better this way...***

Incredible very proffesional paint job.
The face is interesting and unique, but from what I have seen so far, you have far more interesting things which you should have tried to apply that coloring on.

I believe the values you got here are quite good! The only thing Iยดd point out is really the background! If you could lay a bit darker tones on the background and a slight increase in saturation, the character would come even more to life, I think!
Anyways, great job on the skin!
P.S. - If you darken the background, try to brighten even more the areas of greatest reflectivity on the skin, he sure looks to have a kind of rubbery/glossy skin in some places! - Hope I'm not being too overzealous with this crit!

It looks damn great to me! The skin has a realistic look to it. The gradient background always adds atmosphere to a painting like this rather than the stark white. Great job!

I think the colors turned out nicely. I think it all boils down to what the colors are trying to represent.
From the colors here, I get the feeling that this creature is some sort of tribal warrior or some sort, because his colors are luscious and vibrant.

I think it was a n excellent strategy, and you could take it further as well. I'm feeling it might need a few darker shadows - it reads all pretty similarly from here. It's still bloody brilliant either way! <33
