It's 1895, and Mrs. Lady finds herself in the cab of one of the Western & Atlantic's fine high wheeled Standard classes. Leaning against the cab windowsill, she patently waits for the steam gauge to reach operating pressure. No longer just another locomotive engineer, Lady takes a hands on approach when it comes to being a manager. She regularly rides the locomotives in order to supervise, instruct, train and evaluate, the performance and skill of both the employees, and the equipment. An accomplished locomotive engineer herself, she has no problem takeing the throttle and getting a more first hand experience. As is the case seen here, where a newly restored 4-4-0 of civil war vintage is being brought into steam one pound at a time.

I can see Lady being rather motherly over the iron horses. Giving them that sort of gentle handling that is needed to coax them into performance. As well as listening to crews and working to make the job all the more safer and effective.

This is a rather quick sketch. I've gotten to the point where Lady just sort of draws herself. I put her in the same style skirt and blouse as seen in eddie-sand.deviantart.com/art/… I have this thing about drawing railroaders in things other then overalls and striped caps. In Lady's case, a long skirt and boots, fob-watch, and gloves round out her on the job wardrobe. Although when working on the steam locomotives, she wares a set of engine-man's goggles atop her head so she can quickly slide them on when necessary to prevent cinders from getting into her eyes when on the road. The goggles being a holdover from her days as a regular behind the throttle.

One must imagine that after a run, those long ears of hers will hold a collection of cinders from the stack.

This is part of a sketch that also included Angel in a similar pose. Although sitting on the fireman's side as if Lady was training her on the finer points of handling a locomotive. I may finish that up one of these days is time allows.
