All of my HDR's to date are fake as well. I tried three camera exposures a few times but there was always just enough camera movement that they turned out blurry. I'll keep trying for that and at least you have 3 different ones you can play around with later.

does you camera have an auto bracketing feature ? my canon XTi does and will do three auto shots (half stops or full stops) either shutter speed or f-stop. with the remote though - so i actually don't have to touch the camera....
go for the shutter speed option if it does - that way it doesn't change the DOF - which is what happens when you use the f-stop way (?)
and the shutter speed way is correct way to do an HDR.
