Description Photoshop CC and SketchUp 2013

From:

Concept mech. I figured in the future where overpopulation affects structures where towns are constructed in multi-storey levels, a lightweight and nimble mech serves well in these sci-fi urban premise.
The 'Grasshopper'  basically hops about and leaps high; perfect for level to level maneuvers and reaches rooftops in seconds.

Personally I imagined them quite whimsical due to their uncanny movement, but a swarm of these hops about to pursue you should be a nightmare - it's impossible to outrun these guys say if you are a futuristic  psychoactive drug dealer trying to escape in tight and multilevel back alleys, they always reaches there before you do

Nice idea. The picture looks as awesome as the concept is.
However, can it also stick on walls or is it mainly for jumping?
Also, can you explain the weapons or does the picture say everything?
Just curious because I can't tell if the barrel in the middle is supposed to be used for sniping or tank fire.

Eddy-Shinjuku In reply to schattenman005 [2014-03-19 03:59:35 +0000 UTC]

The middle barrel dispense 50cal - it's a sniper. Basically a shooter and a spotter at once; meaning they have at least 90% accuracy down range and shoots consecutively once every bullet hit objects or target - the build-in spotter system needs only microseconds to calculate the physics for the next round, so imagine them shooting every 4-5 seconds pretty accurately (under 1/2 miles range)

Because of their high use of fuel/energy for leaping (even considering we have harness fusion energy in the future), they are use for pursuit and tracking purpose ala 'blitzkrieg'style and not for long stake-out sort of situation - means the character here deploys it when a target is confirmed and ready to detain or eliminate

They usually work in a swarm of 3 and high on rooftops in sentry mode, it's impossible to evade their triangulation. Also your question, they don't really stick to walls but often spotted high on roof top with glaring 'red eyes' as the local folks dub them in a demonic sense

Personally, when I come up with them, the main goal is to create an indifferent mech in a game, imagine playing a futuristic FPS game and have to deal with them - they jump around which encourages you to shoot them mid air because it's hard to get them once they landed - plus the dreading feeling that they will jump over or stomp you while you are in cover haha
On top of that, they employ psychological warfare, emitting loud banhsee-like screeching to disorientate you, it basically will make it sounds like they are in your head

Don't mind the tl;dr post
Thanks for dropping by!

Wow, there's a huge knowledge bomb dropped on me there. Really appreciate it since this description has been nice to read.
So much of the features seem cool, although they seem to make the mech kind of OP. But I guess that's what happens when we consider future technology, especially fusion energy.
Excellent job on the artistic and description design. I hope you can continue to share these kind of pictures.

Yes it's does sounds OP'ing, but it's a surety that the average baddies of the future are almost godlike level in hacking if compared with today's bunch, so this mech or any mechs are redundant most of the time or prone to backfiring if they went rogue. I guess this should equalize the playing field.
I mean, if you are familiar with Ghost in the Shell the 'fight' in more than just in the physical world, so as good as your hardware are, the baddies has ways to out-maneuver them in the vitual world
Say, you hack and steal someone's else identity so that the mechs unable to ID the target, etc. etc.

That said, can't wait for the game Watch Dogs to come out of the closet soon

Good point, Ghost in the Shell did bring up that field and Watch Dogs is going to be an even more interesting view of that.

Despite being poor, Watch Dog release reaction:

And since they operate in swarms when necessary, you don't stand a chance if you outrun one, and another is around a corner.  Cool concept.

Nice work. I always guessed sketchup could be used for making other objects, but never saw anyone use it for anything besides buildings or landscapes.
Since the Grasshoppers are huge, shouldn't you be able to get away from them via alley ways, tunnels and sewers? It seems like they are good for climbing and far distances but not small spaces.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Eddy-Shinjuku In reply to enchanteddroppings [2014-03-18 00:01:12 +0000 UTC]

Sketchup can practically do everything from buildings to spacecraft, concept sci-fi weapons, etc.
Although here I didn't build a one-off mech, that would need some awesome level of skills and time on Sketchup; with basic skills you can construct geometrical parts and components and that's more than enough when you know your way with Photoshop and painting

Ah yes, I've upscaled this to make it look huge, the real size is on the main artwork with the character, they're at best only waist height. And for the tight and intimate affairs, that's the job for human intervention; that is where she steps in to do the messy work

Awesome!   (lol, sorry about the over-sized note  XD  It was my boyfriend who included all the details, and it was my idea to make sure he had all the details and references    I was hoping it'd help make it easier to visualize everything)

I really hope you decide to accept  ^_^  It would be really nice to be able to have his characters brought to life (especially since he hopes to have his book completely revised and published this year.  He's already managed to get an excerpt from a chapter published in a magazine, so next step is fine-tuning the book and publishing the whole thing!  lol)
