Photoshop CS6: Painting, Airbrushing and post-processing.What is this I'm hearing people are comparing my sweet Ellie to Ellen Page
Anyways, that inspired me to created a realism attempt of Ellie...ironically based on bits and pieces of Ellen Page
So I went and dig up references with 'Ellie-like' looking features from Miss Page while adhering closely to the video gaming Ellie. So we got here is ironically something else...it's more 'Ellie' than Ellen
I guess video games prevails. But that's my opinion, what is yours, please leave a comment, cheers!

The eyes and eyebrows are fantastic, but something about the mouth down seems off. I think the neck is too thick? Or maybe all the blurring in that area is throwing me off.

Amazing painting! A very interesting version on Ellie. Sort of sweetened-up, I'd say.
To me, your Ellie doesn't look like Ellen Page at all. I don't think the game's Ellie looks like Page, either (AFAIR, the developers had to revamp her appearance at some point, because she did have the inconvenient resemblance earlier on).

First of all thanks for dropping by!
The reason I made this piece is to firstly make a point that she isn't Ellen Page, and secondly for some reason the gaming Ellie bears semi-realism depiction when everyone else looks 'real-er' in terms of facial anatomy, even for a gaming 3D model.
If I have to hazard a guess, I think the dev's decision is to make her idealistically looking. My attempt here is to make her 'real-er' and instantly that charms sort of absent. So I guess sticking with the concept of idealism in Ellie was a good move - her image is unforgettable and something people(hobbyist and artist) find it appealing to draw

Hm, interesting thoughts here. I would add that part of the issue is probably that we are getting ever closer to the uncanny valley. So, the designers need to be very careful when they go for realism, because if they don't get it absolutely right, then they risk creating a somewhat uncomfortable and off-putting image.
I think that in your piece you have done an admirable job of walking that fine line, and I don't think that you Ellie lacks the charm.

Yup, I instantly had that notion, but when the game got out and I had the opportunity to get to know more about it, I found out that there was this controversy that she (Ellie) looks too much Ellen Page to the point the developers has to make changes so that Ellie looks more like the voice-actress.

Beautiful~ I love Ellie to PIECES. I heard that Ellen Page was not very approving of her image being used for Ellie so Naughty Dog made some development changes to make Ellie resemble her voice actor, Ashley Johnson.
