I created a feathered selection (20-40 feather depending on file size) around the area I wanted to color. then with a pencil tool set to half opacity on an overlay layer I streaked in the shine overlapping to get the whitest parts. would work with a hard brush aswell but I like the crispness of the pencil tool.

Wow, so it's not really so much brushwork as it is selection tools and opacity changes. You could really do that with a mouse, if you wanted to.
