Aw.  I love baby raptors.  I see quite a few pin feathers.

I probably missed it, but where did you get the name from? I think it's also the name of a character from an animated TV show.

I don't think I have explained it to anyone on here. There is a river that runs through the Congo in Africa called the Kasai River. I named him after it as a way to remember Congo, our bird that passed away last year who was a huge part of our show.

Ah. Very nice name for him.

Also this is the obscure TV show I was thinking of: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kassai_a…

It was on WYBE 35 around the time I was in middle school, I think. It was a PBS-like channel from around Philly. Always had a ton of weird stuff on.

Augur Buzzards are PROS at looking angry lol! They just have such a mean face all the time! (But he is anything BUT mean!)

Aww I didnt think he was mean, they just have that look about
them and so do the eagles. Does he let you touch him.
Wish I could.

They definitely have a mean look to them, can't argue that! Yes, I can touch him, but he does not enjoy it like a parrot would. These guys would much rather not be touched, and it's better for their feathers if you don't

LuLupoo In reply to EdgedFeather [2017-06-29 20:02:24 +0000 UTC]

I didnt think they like to be touched at all. I am not that
familiar with wild bird only what I have learned on here.
Cant say I blame them for not liking the human touch. Didnt
know that about touching their feathers. Why is that by the
way? I know I ask a lot of questions lol. Bad habit I have.

EdgedFeather In reply to LuLupoo [2017-06-30 19:43:56 +0000 UTC]

They can learn to tolerate being touched, but they never truly enjoy it. No worries about the questions The reason for not touching their feathers is that they dress their feathers with a special weatherproofing oil they secrete from a gland above the base of their tail. When we touch them, the oils on our hands strip that oil from their feathers. It can lead to them having a harder time drying off or staying dry in the rain, and can start to make their feathers look extremely ratty and tatty over time.
