Description This is a drawingdone for the Fighting Game Boss Tribute Round 2 by Fighting-Games-Elite DA group.
fighting-games-elite.deviantar…

I seem to be quite the mood for superly-cheap fighting game bosses.

==========================

For anyone who has played the King of Fighters series of fighting games before the 2000, Goenitz was a boss who traumatized many a player. You were allowed to use a team of 3 characters to fight him alone, but he could easily spam tornado all over the screen. Still remains as one of the most memorable bosses; and I personally preferred the Orochi arc than the NESTs arc.

Is Goenitz a match for a wind god like Fujin?

I would put my money on Fuujin;
as Goenitz is part of Orochi and Shinto gods>Orochi, I think?

My least favorite story arc? Tales of ASH. Because I hate Ash Crimson so much.

Agreed! Also when time travel happened, I had some disbelief.
Orochi > Nests > Ash
But at least Nests arc gave some good characters; I can't like the characters in Ash arc as much.

I adore all the Orochi members except Orochi himself.
Was a bit disappointed when I saw the great godly boss was a man in white pants with tattoos. After the year with Goenitz, I was expecting something more impressive in the antagonist.

Honestly I'm hoping Shun'ei's arc won't be as crap as Tales of Ash. I also agree that NESTS Saga has awesome characters but the antagonists are kinda lame. Not even sure with who the bosses are in NESTS Saga.

I only know Shun'ei has a bit of relation with the last boss of KOF14. Here's hoping this story arc getting better! On the other hand, at least the other teams have their own mystery about them. Like Orochi's potential revival, the secret experiments on Nelson's arm, where does Hein come from, etc. Even if you don't like the most story, there's plenty other things to ponder about.

Agreed about the antagonists about NEST. My main issue was that too many of the bosses of that arc felt too similar; men in black trench-coat. Krizalid was still memorable but the rest felt that they used about the same design template. Do members of NEST like black leather coat very much? (But looking at K', I'll say YES)

Ash Saga had my brain locked when they introduced *Time Travel*. I hate those kind of stories because of potential time paradox issues. I can see they put effort into designing the characters, but I have difficulty liking them when I have other favourites in the same game.

I can't even get behind Shun'ei design; I think it's a case of trying-too-hard-to-be-cool. I can even accept Sylvie's design because it makes her unique and memorable.

Wow... pardon me for the rant.

Rant about Tales of Ash and Ash Crimson all you want. I welcome all the Ash hate Poor K' has yet to get his memories back but he has a sister who's kinda like Whip... or something like that.

Shun? He's a Vocaloid. I make fun of him wearing headphones all the time Tbh Ash is the only KoF "protagonist" I genuinely dislike. I have no problem with the other 3 (or 4, if Alba Meira from Maximum Impact counts).

I think the reason is Ash comes across as being a jerk.

K' has a bit of a edgy attribute, and he is a good character to use; but if I needed an edgy-attribute character, I look at Iori.
Iori is still my favourite moody fellow in KOF; threatening to kill everyone he meets.

It got to be the fashion to wear headphones now; a lot of anime characters are doing it. Does he get secret coaching tips through those headphones? "I notice your opponent is trying to get you into the corner! Build up the pressure!"

Ooh, I never played the Maximum Impact series. Couldn't get excited with the game looks.

Ash stealing Chizuru's and Iori's powers is also unforgivable. KoFXIII may have made him less of an arrogant slob, but I didn't feel so sorry for him when he died. K' and Iori may be jerks, but at least they don't need to be SNK's favorite to be considered badass. (Another reason why I don't like Ash is that he's SNK's pet/hogs the spotlight a lot. He died in XIII, but XIV hinted his revival due to Verse quoting him when defeating Iori, and in the Team Official Invitation ending. Goddammit, Kukri.) Also lost count on how many times did Iori say "die" ever since 1995.

I wish I knew. He's still awesome though. Too bad he can be quite harsh to sleepyhead Meiten despite being his only friend.

I prefer K9999 though he is the bane of SNK's existence (or in short, SNK hates him because he's so similar to Tetsuo from AKIRA that he was replaced by Nameless who is so lame despite the more original design).

Ah yes. I was also upset about that part about the powers-stealing.
I think it is quite normal for a protagonist to have more spotlight; it's just that his personality is very unlikeable, it is not something I like in protagonist. Kyo and K' didn't viciously go out to make use of people to get what they want.

I want to find out more about Kukri too. They didn't explain much, did they?

I still find it funny the thing that Iori hates the most is violence.

Ah, I forgot about K9999. He was a bit better, but I hold my view that the Orochi arc had more memorable antagonists than the NESTS arc.

He didn't feel very "protagonist" to me before the power-stealing plot. But after that, it seemed to be more and more obvious. XIII is where he can be most likable.

Nope. Just someone apparently hired by Elizabeth who happened to join Sylvie and Mian to get his cash prize lol

Orochi arc is indeed amazing. Not sure if Rugal arc was just as great though.

I think the Rugal arc was simple to understand and good.
It set up the understanding that this was a fighting tournament with its secrets.
Rugal as a last boss was very memorable too.

The joke would be why every team is still joining KOF each year even when crazy people/events always happen at the last bout.

tmma1869 In reply to EdgeKagami [2016-12-20 11:34:52 +0000 UTC]

I think the Orochi arc made that repetitive plot a lot deeper than Rugal arc did. Rugal is simply a power-hungry jerk. Speaking of Rugal, are Adel and Rose canon? I wish Adel becomes playable someday, along with the return of Alba, Soiree, and Luise. Adel fits as a protagonist more than Ash. He seems to be the least jerky, tied with Shun'ei if not nicer.

Characters from other SNK franchises (Fatal Fury, Art of Fighting, Psycho Soldier, etx.) don't seem to mind. The legitimate KoF characters on the other hand... depends?

EdgeKagami In reply to tmma1869 [2016-12-21 01:17:03 +0000 UTC]

Yes, but Rugal was important to help players get the mindset of the game; get in there and beat the big baddie.
Then in the orochi arc, you face a even bigger, stronger baddie.
It's like why you can't have a villain like Cell appear in the first volume of Dragonball; there's a build-up of how powerful and dangerous each sequel villain is.

Yes, I think Adel and Rose are canon. No comment about Maximum Impact characters; I didn't play it.
Adel was very polite and nice; and while I do not see him as a protagonist, I can respect his way of doing things.
Why do SNK bosses have such decently-behaved sons? I'm sure one could have a cup of tea with Rock Howard too.

Seriously, no one questions why they get an invitation each year and something bad happens? (Except KOF14 Antonov, the nice guy organizer genuinely didn't see the gate-crashing coming) . Maybe it's the annual catch-up party for all the characters; it's like the normal friendly greetings "Long time no see Andy! Are you finally married to Mai?" or something.

Oh yeah, almost forgot. KoFXIV has better graphics than Maximum Impact series. But the new update for KoFXIV graphics might make the graphics as bad or even worse than MI. Here's the video: www.youtube.com/watch?v=Se_q4B…

Rock was raised by Terry despite killing/defeating Geese and idk about Adel. Rose? She's only quite nasty when used by Botan, but is nice outside possession/mind control?

Some of them won't mind battling, mind you. Others are kinda not feeling it lol

Oh yes, I saw that graphic patch and am quite excited about it.
All the nay-sayer were ranting about the graphics, and I was quite alright.
After I saw that new textures and lighting effects on Kyo and Slyvie, quite hyped for the new look.

Good point, he got more Terry than Geese in him.
Maybe Rose would be nice except when you mess with her darling brother.

Some of them need that tournament excitement in their life or the extra cash.
I suspect Iori needs his regular dose of fighting with Kyo, as much as he keeps screaming about wanting to kill Kyo.

Sylvie looks so cute, but Shun is outright ruined!!! Joe got a tan and it sorta reminds me of his Fatal Fury 3 look I have yet to think about my overall opinion when I see the rest in the new graphics style.

Rock is a paradox!!! He should be either a baby or a child! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHH!!! Wait a sec. Rose is supposedly a pacifist?

I love how Tung called him out of his obsession in defeating Kyo, only to give the old man a "Shut up and die for being such an annoying pest" comment. Kyo also called him out on lacking any friends (despite having teammates for a few installments) and Iori is at his usual "Die" response. And yeah, either proving their strength/immense skill in their fighting style or the money matters to the characters who are not really part of the main plot. Nakoruru? Doing her duty of saving the world.

Hm, is Shun-ie more fainted in colour than previously? Maybe his textures have not been finalized yet.

Rock... Hard to say, in KOF14, he should have been a kid, but I saw Hotaru in the women team ending.
Since Rock and Hotaru are roughly the same age...
And if Rock is a teenager then, why isn't he coming to support Terry in KOF? Arghhh, timelines!

I wouldn't say Rose is a pacifist, but the impresson I get if that she could be charming if she wanted to be.
Also, she listens mostly to Adel who can keep her behaviour in check, I think.

Aww, Iori is just shy that someone called him out on his obsession with Kyo.
Iori could have better luck having friends if he didn't have a horrible track record of killing/beating up his team mates after a competition.
On the other note, he got to hang out with Vice and Mature; two gorgeous ladies because of their orochi eternal lives.
Iori, you lucky dude, you. Why do you get rewarded for being such a jerk?

He has more saturation on the original graphics. Mainly the hair. He definitely looks paler in the new graphics.

It's called fanservice for fans/players of older KoF titles, I think. Hence the many cameos for several SNK franchises in most of the endings.

Vice and Mature joined him out of concern and maybe Orochi's orders. He probably used them too. Hence killing them then Vice having trouble forgiving him while Mature is totally okay.
