Hmm, but what about somebody with say Alzheimer's or Lewy body dementia? They're not quite a vegetable, yet they're not all there; they're not the lively person they once were.
Suppose Iggy's spirit went into a body with a dumb brain like Roy's; would he not have been able to pull off his Iggyish wit? Suppose Lemmy's soul were to invade Ludwig's body; would Ludwig act instead like a much smarter version of Lemmy? Not that Lemmy isn't smart in his own way; he's got an incredible degree of kinesthetic intelligence, for one, but his head is up in Cloudcuckooland... then again, so is Iggy's, so a super-smart Lemmy would probably act a lot like Iggy. Which makes you wonder...

I always pictured Lemmy as a lot more self-assured and independent than Iggy, despite his cutesiness and trusting nature, the tools necessary to think of plans quickly in case of an emergency. Iggy can think on the go, too, but is impulsive, and has a limited sense of danger, not unlike a child, which is why his father decided that his bespectacled son shouldn't be left alone for too long at a time. Despite not being the youngest, Iggy is kind of the baby of the group; (this is implied in the canon as well) still sharing a bed with his brother, never going anywhere alone, and crying a lot when things don't go as planned. Bowser doesn't like the thought of his Koopalings growing up and therefore encourages this behavior, and believes Iggy's affliction means he should be coddled and protected. Of course Bowser doesn't realize that this leaves Iggy vulnerable to a certain kind of viper that can slither around unseen.

Me too. I think Lemmy would understand Iggy better than anyone; he would explain why Iggy does this and that and he'd be driven to learn how to do things on his own and prove he can be a big kid. It's like he got impaired in all the ways Iggy did not, and vice versa. When Iggy starts playing with Ludwig all the time, Lemmy tries to make Larry his new playmate - he has an uncanny ability to know what others are thinking, and Larry is the most transparent in this regard for some reason. He's fascinated and a little scared by Larry's cool teenage boy stuff, just as he was by Iggy's cool fighting kings stuff until the nerds and their nerdy attitudes pissed him off.
He gets bored easily without others to play with, or if they are not keeping him entertained, so then he wanders off on his own and this is when trouble happens. He's usually adept at keeping himself safe though; the accident on the ice with the Ptooies was a fluke, but as many times as he wanders off he's bound to get hurt sooner or later. It wouldn't likely have happened again, if Larry hadn't quadruple-dared him to lick that Freezie.

But his family, sadly, treats him like he's stupid; King Dad has reportedly called him a "blithering idiot" in the comics. He may exhibit dwarfism, which might come with a few learning difficulties. In his case, I think he has a hard time paying attention if he's forced to sit still and not allowed to move, and I'll bet in school he's drugged to the gills for ADHD. He's probably surprisingly good at non-culture specific tests of intelligence though, such as some kinds of puzzles, and often notices things that others do not. He is also surprisingly capable of jealousy, and knowingly does some very naughty things, such as sneaking into his siblings' private spaces to steal candy and scribble in their "coloring books". (I watched a show from this one Youtuber who interpreted him as obsessed with candy and always talking about candy; I see him as hyper and always hungry and taking Iggy's food if he doesn't finish it, which is often because his medicine dampens his appetite, and fun, colorful foods such as candy and unfortunately those "special candys" that are seen laying about in Larry's room are his favorites) He probably plays along with the whole image of childishness to some extent to help him get away with some of his naughty behaviors.
Larry is probably the easiest to read because, well, despite his efforts to be sneaky, he's the most transparent of the Koopalings. And the easiest to beat up, despite his aggressive tendencies and athletic hobbies. Lemmy could beat his ass even without the big balls.
His relationship with Iggy reminds me of my relationship with my sister, but I can't say which of us is Iggy and which of us is Lemmy because they both embody different aspects of each of us. Lemmy embodies my sister's childishness and naivete mixed with my relative self-sufficiency, and Iggy embodies my intelligence with my sister's vulnerability and irrational, crazy behavior. Neither of us have Lemmy's grace or physical coordination though. Iggy is not exactly a klutzy geek either; he is incredibly swift and can jump high, and is quite strong too. But he just cannot do the ball thing that Lemmy does, because unlike Lemmy he has a high center of gravity, which is why he is hunched over all the time. Lemmy has an easier time being bipedal; not as much to carry above his legs. And the low center of gravity is great for gymnastics.
