I'm disappointed that the Western Maryland didn't set a few of these powerful beasts aside for preservation. Β

one was to be saved (WM 1404 i believe) along with a H-8 2-8-0. scrapped because no museum wanted/had the room for them.Β

Well, there's always the replica/new-build route like what the British are doing. Take a look at engines like 60163 Tornado. That's a brand new LNER Peppercorn A1 4-6-2 Pacific.

a group is building (or trying to build) a PRR T1. Another group is trying to raise funds to build a NYC Hudson. that same group who made the Tornado is building another engine, a P2 2-8-2 "Prince of Wales"

There's also a replica of Cock O' The North being built. Β The plan is to give the replica of LNER 2001 the same streamlining as the A4 Pacifics and the W1 "Hush-Hush" following its rebuild into a 4-6-4 Hudson version of the A4 Pacifics. Β

2007 is to be un-streamlined like Tornado. after 2007 is built, there is planning for a V4 2-6-2 to be built. didnt know someone was building a replica of 2001. i honestly don't know a lot about foreign steam (other than Canadian). i do know the P2 2-8-2 were Britain's most powerful production locomotives

Actually, that title goes to the LMS Princess Coronations. Β

the Coronation Class were LMS' most powerful, not all of UK's. the P2 and 9F are often considered the most powerful in the UK, though more often the P2. a few experimental locomotives were stronger

Too bad none of them survived the scrap torch if it hadn't for preservation
