Hear me out here. So I think the "blonde" theory was debunked from cannon in several instances, plus it doesn't make much sense why Double Dee would hide long beautiful blonde hair, even if it was messy... The "dodge-ball incident" theory is too confusing to follow, plus the tot episode confuses on how young Eddward would have to be to get hit so hard... And to leave a large enough scar to be so worked up about? All the scar and tumor theories.. maybe I'm just being hopeful by saying no to them?

So here's my theory. Double Dee is always pulling stuff out of his hat, so maybe he carefully organizes fairly long hair (that is probably dark brown or black) to hold things. He probably just wore the hat as a kid cause he liked the hat. Then over time knowing the sort of incidents he gets into with Ed and Eddy he would come prepared by hiding things under his hat. To me this would explain Eddy's awe and Ed's questioning if it hurt. I've seen guys constantly wince at the ways girls pull their hair back, and I'd be dumbstruck if I saw hair organized as storage so well. It'd also be hilarious to look at so that explains laughter.

Why not use pant pockets? Well I'm going off memory, but Double Dee seems much more likely to lose his pants on an adventure than his hat. Especially with the Kanker's around! His need to recover his head with something else when with Ed and Eddy is to probably assure it doesn't get messed up or things don't fall out. And in public so the other kids won't tease him for his worry wart secondary storage on his head. About people being under his hat, most of the time he doesn't care probably cause he has bigger things to worry about at these times, like dirty feet on his head..

Or maybe I'm over analyzing it's just ordinary hair, but that's no fun!
