It has been a long time since my last post, hope you guys enjoy these.

Serenissima: Venezia

For over two years now my wife has been planning a trip to Europe. This April 2012 we were given the chance to visit some of the most scenic places in Italy, Spain and France.

Our point of entry was Italy. Italy has many significant cities such as Milan, Rome, Florence, Pisa and of course the most serene and enchanting…Venice or what the local call Venezia. Venice is known as the City of Canals or the Floating City.

The name is derived from the ancient Veneti people who inhabited the region by the 10th century B.C. The city historically was the capital of the Venetian Republic. Venice has been known as the "La Dominante", "Serenissima", "Queen of the Adriatic", "City of Water", "City of Masks", "City of Bridges", "The Floating City", and "City of Canals". Luigi Barzini described it in The New York Times as "undoubtedly the most beautiful city built by man". Venice has also been described by the Times Online as being one of Europe's most romantic cities.

The opening image was shot in the famous Venetian Lagoon near Piazza San Marco, were Gondolas and Water buses line up. The structure in the horizon is known as Basilica di San Giorgio Maggiore. This was my favourite spot and spent most of the twilight time here. With the new Canon 5d Mark III it was the best place and time to use my new camera.

In our four days stay in Venice during holy week, it was the peak of tourist season and thousands of people visited this wonderful city from all over the world. It was crowded and quite difficult to really get the shots I wanted. I hope to share some of the images I have captured so please do check my other photos Ill upload soon.
