i had to relearn how to say the word[ friend ]
to roll it around my tongue
and taste something
other than betrayal
i wanted to live
with eyes and heart open
release the death grip
on my lips
and speak
my own words into the world
and you taught me
how to speak
[ friend ]
in a different language
with a different memory
a smile
i didn't know i could feel
from the inside
out.
