Description

A picture from one of our more recent destinations: Crater Lake National Park.

Crater Lake is a volcanic lake which formed only 7700 years ago after the collapse of a giant volcano, Mount Mazama, during a big eruption. It's 594 m deep which makes it the deepest lake in the USA and the deepest volcanic lake in the world. It also features some of the clearest water in the world. Measured with a Secchi disc the record visible depth was recorded to be 43,9 m. In conjunction, the depth and the clear water give the lake its intense blue colour.

I'm actually a little on the fence with this one. One one hand, it's one of the most beautiful lakes I have ever seen. At least it's the bluest one - the colours in this picture are true to reality. However, this park doesn't seem to receive much money. The whole east rim drive (2/3 of the road around the lake) was closed due to snow. Apparently there isn't enough money to plow a few kilometers of road in June... Same was true for the trails. All the trails were closed with signs saying that hiking is prohibited... Like, what are they thinking? We attempted Garfield Peak Trail, which was mostly snow-free, but had to turn around half-way on a steep, snow-covered section. The ground beneath the snow was loose and the risk was too high to slide down the mountain. However, a single guy with a shovel could have freed that section within less than an hour... I think at least a handful of trails should be cleared by June and I don't think it would be too much work... However, the visitor center told us that some trails open as late as August. I guess this park is for driving around in a car for a day for most of the year. At least we got some beautiful sights and a gorgeous sunset.

You've got a serious zoom on that camera. The scale of the place is amazing. I really appreciate the fact you haven't changed the changed the hue. The whole area has a blue hue. It seems a bit unreal at first. Oregon has climates ranging from temperate rain forest (coast), 2 mountain ranges, to high desert. And the high desert is amazingly beautiful.

Crater Lake is a national park, not a state park. The US National Park budget is less than Austin Texas's government's budget. I'll let you draw your own conclusions. BTW, due to a healthy state lottery in part, Oregon State parks are doing well. When the non-"Conservative" party shut down the Federal Government it was the state parks that remained open.

Different location and perspective from where I shot mine years ago then. All good. I also had a very different camera then too with less detail than yours does. It took mine 2 or 3 pictures to capture that cauldron.

Conservation was at the root core of being a conservative years ago. They did create the Clean Water & Air Acts and formed the EPA to enact them. Now they're busy tearing down their own creation. It's not a party of conservatives anymore but rather full of greed. They shut down the government because they were spoiled brats not getting their way a few years back. Let's just hope they don't find oil under the lake or that will be next to be ruined for a few dollars more.

As for the budget, you're spot on. There's almost no budget for this park at all.

What do you mean by zoom? This is a wide-angle shot. But yeah, this lake is definitely too big to get into one frame without doing a panoramic.

Well, other National Parks apparently get more money. They clear roads and trails earlier, have more staff etc. I noticed that the budget is low in general (roads man...) but this one seemed to have a particularly low budget.

Your Dem Party (I suppose you are talking about them?) didn't shut down the Federal Government. At least not if you are talking about the rather recent shut down. The Republicans actually couldn't get 3 of their own members to vote for their (tax plan I think?) even though they have the majority in the house.

I been there with my family it’s way more beautiful in person I would love to go back to see it again it still had snow on the ground but it was awesome to see some made a tunnel at the one of these buildings it’s been a long time hard to remember but still can’t forget the beauty of the place like I said I would definitely like to go back to that place

It's always way nicer to be there in person. Like, I always see these stylised photographs and think "will it look as good in person". And then you get there and it's just way more amazing.

I have just spend 10 amazing days in Glacier NP (front- and backcountry). My previous comment actually stemmed from the fact that I have seen so many great pictures of that park and it still took my breath away the entire time. I think I took about a billion pictures in that park.

There are more reported sightings of Bigfoot (sasquatch) in that area than nearly anywhere else apparently
