Description
An illustration I had to do as an assignment. We were given two poems and were asked to make an illustration with it. It's aimed at 5 to 6 year old children. This one was done with watercolours and then touched up a bit with coloured pencils for some more detail. Should've left out the background (according to my teacher, and I agree), but oh well.Poem is by Mieke van Hooft and here is a direct translation:
"Tierelom
In the strange zoo
lives the fat tierelom.
Do you want to look?
Come on over!
Tierelom is old and bent.
Bended legs,
flappy ears,
pink spots in his hair.
Big bumps,
trunk in front...
What do you say? Is it weird?
It's true!"

Spijtig dat er blijkbaar zo weinig mensen in de klas hem hebben getekend (ofwel denk ik dat maar...).

Ja, maar toch niet zo heel veel? Ik had de indruk dat de meeste mensen gingen voor de poes. Maar we zullen ze binnenkort wel allemaal zien zeker als ze ophangen op de muur.

My first sketches actually made him look more old and creepy, but it was deemed not appropriate for little kids. ='3

He's actually not -that- creepy, just a bit more wrinkly and with rat like paws (and blue instead of green). Which I guess is too scary for young children.
