So now we know where Kion and the Guard are during the events of this film. They're at the Tree of Life.

A great image, but I feel as though Kovu ought to be in the picture, as well. Like Kiara, he carries a great deal of the film's narrative and drive on his shoulders, so to leave him out of this piece seems a little... Adjectives fail me here.

this could be the real movie cover. I wish, the art on the new DVDs is so crappy.

you drew this you're a good artist, about the actual cover all disney movies are like that The original Lion Kings cover is pretty cheerful and optimistic as well however a cheerful cover for LKII does not work Lion King II is way too dark and dramatic to have a cheerful disney cover. Β If anyones reading this here's a cover someone could put together i can't since i suck at art, keep Simba and Zira above Pride Rock that is awesome but add Mufasa and Scars shadow above them showing that they are both lost in the legacy of another have Kiara below and put Kovu in the shadows right between not just Zira and Simba but Mufasa and Scar showing that he is torn between both that would be my ideal cover for this movie.
I've heard people ask about the title it's actually quite unique of course it refers to Simba's reign which everyone already knows the other thing it refers to is more interesting, the title Simba's pride also refers to well his pride he is too proud of upholding his fathers legacy that he can't admit the mistakes he made nor does he fully understand the choices his father would make because he's not his father he shouldn't be his father he must forge his own legacy but he is too proud of his fathers legacy to let it go and make his own. Β That's actually very clever and something no one would even consider until after they saw the movie and make no mistake the title was intentional this is just one of the several things people miss about this movie in truth it is probably one of the deepest and most complex movies disney has ever done direct to DVD or not.
I'm well aware I'll probably get some heat for that but it's also true every bit of symbolism i would put in the cover is in the actual movie especially the similarities between Simba and Zira I honestly cannot believe no one has talked about it I mean just listen to this. Β Simba witnessed the death of his father was sent into exile by his fathers usurper was guided by his fathers spirit to reclaim his place discovered his father was murdered and sought revenge he now strives to live up to his fathers legacy and do what he feels his father would is very controlling of his child and unwilling to let the past go. Β Zira witnessed the death of someone she loved was sent into exile by his supposed usurper sought revenge vowed to fulfill her loved ones legacy makes every decision based on his perceived will is very controlling of her children and unwilling to let the past go. Β
Seriously Simba may as well be looking in a mirror they constantly make similar choices Zira's are always more aggressive but similar, she rejects Kiara just as Simba rejects Kovu, She ignores Kovu's wants and needs to further her plans, Simba does the same thing not even answering Kiara's question during we are one unintentionally but still , Kovu turns on her Zira rejects him for essentially not being Scar Simba rejects him for being Scar both exile him, Zira refuses to accept her role in her son's death and blames Kovu, Simba also doesn't see the pain he is causing Kiara instead blaming Kovu the difference Kiara reaches Simba Kovu doesn't reach Zira but make no mistake Simba was on the same path Zira was and if not for Kiara may of turned out exactly like her.
It's stuff like this that makes me really appreciate Lion King II because there's no way that's a coincidence Zira and Simba are mirror images of each other and that makes the conflict between them very interesting did anyone else see this earlier and if not how did you view it.Β
