Description
A little casual Garrus from Mass Effect 2, sans visor.Drew this last night while watching Idiocracy. Hilarious.
Oh and charcoal on paper, as usual. This might look labour intensive, but honestly, it practically drew itself. Mostly just a texture study.
This drawing had a little contrast adjustment in photoshop, original drawing can be seen here .
Also, I wasn't sure about the background... suggestions?

Pffft I so hope we can see him w/o his visor at least ONCE in ME3! So i can stare into his gorgeous predatory blue eyes.....*melts*
Anyways - once again you leave me in awe by your skill. You put such detail in his plating that its almost like I can feel what it would be like to the touch. You even got the scarring on the right side of his face. I can see the mild cracks under his right eye,lower mouth plate & mandible. A texture study? Nicely done! 
As for backgrounds: hmmmm, ....u got me there. How about something mildly similar to that garrus o-face piece you made? And from there, trial and error? XP Personally, i'd love to see the fish tank behind him in Shep's quarters. The faint lighting from the tank might work well here with the contrast of Garrus' darker form. Kinda make him stand out perhaps?

I really wanted to do something nice with his visor off, and I think this satisfied my need, lol.
... And if there is one thing I love about Garrus, and well turians in general, it's the texture of their skin. Super fun to draw, surprisingly. I obviously used a reference to get the location of notable lines and scars and whatnot, but the rest of his skin just sort of drew itself.
Yeah, so I love the look of his skin. The truth comes out. I'm a big weirdo, lol.

He just looks so good without it, don't you think? I wish he wouldn't wear that thing ALL the time, lol.

I'm hoping we get to see him with it off in ME3. It was just weird that he showed up for the romance scene with it on. I wonder if BW didn't think we'd recognize him without it?
Palaven, that would be a nice background too. I might draw the background completely separate and then paste this in with photoshop.

How big is the original?
About background, looks fine to me as is, but I could see him standing in front of a window or viewscreen as well...something rectangular, off centre, but light and with not much detail.
Nice texture on the mouth and browplates, love the small cracks.
If I absolutely had to point out something as odd, I'd say his cheeks are a bit too rough and textured, but that would be level 3 nitpicking and might just as well be some faulty memory on my part

I think the paper was 11x14? maybe a bit smaller. I've been keeping things on the smaller side otherwise I run the risk of losing interest before I finish.
Yeah his skin was a lot of fun. I may have gotten a little carried away with his cheeks, but I didn't want them to look too flat.
Hmmm good ideas about the background. Something soft, definitely. I will have to think about that.

The whole thing is treated well, but I find myself particularly fond of the subtle little folds in the collar.
I dunno about the background other than thinking it should probably be fairly simple and light as a balance to the concentrated detailing and contrasts in the figure.

I had originally just wanted to explore skin texture, so I hadn't given the background any thought whatsoever. I think you're right though about it being simple, something that doesn't compete with busy textures going on with Garrus.

The texture looks a lot fancier than it is... the charcoal pencil did most of the work. It was rather meditative process actually, lol. I drew this while watching the movie Idiocracy, so that's about... two hours?

Honestly, the charcoal does most of the work with something like this. Finding a stroke or angle that works and just modifying it as you go.

You should try it again! It can be very forgiving. Really... and just... let the charcoal do all the work. Honestly. I probably can't even draw, it's the charcoal drawing itself.
