Description

This design was inspired by Zazie Beetz's stellar version of the Marvel character from Deadpool 2!

I love that Ryan Reynolds cast a woc to portray a character that most people deem as default white. I also love the ideas they applied to her character to basically reverse her colour scheme.

However, I feel like the final design is sort of lacking? The idea to invert her black eye patch into a white vitilgo eye patch is genius but I feel like it would have really popped on a dark-skinned actress.  Domino’s original comic look is so stark and striking and monochromatic that it only makes sense to approach this iteration in a similar way.

Just to clarify, I'm still in love with Beetz's version of the character, she was really one of the highlights of the film for me; this was just a design idea I had in mind for a long while so no disrespect to Zazie Beetz, Ryan Reynolds or the make-up/costume department of the film! I really hope she'll feature in the next film!

Domino belongs to Marvel Comics & 20th Century Fox.

Artwork belongs to me.

I like the way you lit her hair! And I def agree that, while Beetz was great in the movie, a dark-skinned actress would have worked better withe the character's usual looks/contrast.

Ugh, I know, right??!  It only makes sense in relation to her original design

Oh I absolutely loved Zazie as Domino. You can clearly tell either she was a fan of Domino or did her research, because she absolutely did Domino justice. But whoever did the eye design and makeup absolutely halfSSed it. Plus the writing absolutely halfSSed her power's. Zazie was gold but imagine how much better its have been if they hadn't neutered Domino.

Yeah, for sure!  Ah, I think the director is most responsible in this case?  I assume the costume department just do what the director tells them because he has this vision or something, you know?

Well ultimately the Director will have either the first or final say. So I do blame him first before anyone else just doing as instructed.

This is a fantastic idea, and I totally agree with you. When I watched the movie, her eye patch popped even less than in the promotional material. Thats said, I think Zazie did an amazing job. She was def one of my favorite parts of the film

Thank you so much for saying so!

I know, right??!  Even in the X-Force interview scene where she's first introduced, the light that was hitting her face made it even more difficult to see her eye patch when it was *just about* identifiable in the promo material when her hair was down (only because it was creating a shadow over the patch -  which is arguably what she is most associated with in the first place!)  But yes, Beetz was one of, if not *the* highlight of the film for me; it was an overall enjoyable film but she was definitely what I took away from the film the most - that and Negasonic and Yukio
