Description

Bluebell Railway No.55 “Stepney” is seen at Vicarstown Station, on the Island of Sodor, in 1962 for his visit on the North Western Railway, with three coaches, heading towards Tidmouth to be received by Sir Charles Topham Hatt II and his engines.

Hey, all! As you may know today is StepneyCon 2021, as well as the reopening of the Bluebell Railway, after the Covid-19 pandemic. This month is also the 61st anniversary of the Bluebell Railway and Stepney’s arrival there, so I decided to contribute to the celebrations like I did with other Character Cons during this month.

As for Stepney, he’s one of my favourite characters, maybe not top 10, but still close. While I’ve never seen the real engine in person, he’s definitely got a very interesting history during his lifespan of 145 years. Stepney is very good in his own book in the Railway Series too. As for his television counterpart, while I find it questionable (and rather annoying) how much they changed his backstory, I still like his episodes in seasons four and five, but if he would have returned to the show at some point, I would have honestly preferred if he were portrayed like an actual Bluebell Railway engine (like in real life and the books), instead of a North Western engine. Regardless, I think his five episodes are extremely good and some of the show’s best, even if they changed a lot about the character and then later went to sue to the Bluebell Railway for their engine having the same name as the Thomas the Tank Engine character (even though the real Stepney had been around for roughly 120 years by the time season four first aired on television in 1995 and the Bluebell Railway had been authorized by Wilbert Awdry himself to allow their engines, Stepney included, to decorate them as Thomas characters and give them faces), but that’s a topic for another day…

By the way, I apologize for not being very active this week, but I've been very busy with a lot of things in my personal life (nothing serious, if you're wondering), so I didn't have too much time to be here, and this will carry on until the first week of June I'm afraid. Luckily, I managed to get this sprite for StepneyCon 2021 done just in time. However, I'll make some short posts and polls (and maybe some other sprites too) here and there when I can, and after I'm done with all these busy things I've got, I'll go back to spending more time here like I did in the first two weeks of May. That's all for now! Bye!
