Description This pencil drawing required a lot of reference shots. I used my friend Liza as a reference for the she-devil, although I didn't try to make it look exactly like her. For example, I combined her with the original woman from Grant Wood's "American Gothic," including giving Liza a long neck. I used myself loosely as the model for the Devil, which required giving myself no hair but a mustache and goatee. The clothes I tried to match with the idea that she is a seductive feminine creature and that he is a well dressed demon. When I was looking online at other versions that people had made of this classic painting, I was surprised to see that nobody had thought of the farmer's pitchfork as being easy to transform into Satan's pitchfork, and my drawing sprang from that.

nice moustache haha
woman looks likes she has done something really revolting or really evil, i like that

but the lightning between the man and woman doens't match, the woman has lightning from the left with very strong shadows right, while the man has lightning from the upperleft (which looks more natural) and has a weaker shadow down-right.

this looks really amazing. the woman looks great. i love the shading, especially on the woman's neck. i love how the burning house and the fire have a kinda unrealistic thing to them... but that makes it looks great pitchfork... haha

Art school is awesome, and you'll be amazed by how much better you can become as an artist. The most important thing is to try your hardest to get better, or it won't happen as much as it could. Even with assignments you don't think you'll like or that don't directly relate to your major, try to enjoy doing them and come up with ways to have fun with them because you have to do them anyway. Oh, and you'll eventually get used to not really getting too much sleep, but it's definitely worth it. Good luck with whatever you do!

My portfolio was composed of 20 pieces. I would suggest putting in your best work, but if some of that work is very different in style or medium you should include it to show that you have a diversity to your work. I chose artwork that I had created during my junior and senior year for my art classes. I'm not sure what you've had for classes, but if you don't feel that you have at least 20 strong pieces, you should get working!

lol yea i am and i have many pieces i want to use but cutting it down thats the probelm so i guess you could say its a good dilema :-p

the point od chosing your best pieces is a matter of opinion though and i have to chose based on what i think others will see as "good" if you know what i mean. a lot of my work is very complex and abstract which i like, yet thats not always to peoples tastes huh but then thats where the diversity comes in eh. i guess its just finding the right balance

but thanks for all your help. its always nice talking to someone who has experienced what i want to do
