Do people understand the concept of state bankruptcy? Maybe he's not cutting exactly the right stuff but buddy, something has to go. I don't know of too many people who don't agree that government spending is out of control but as soon as conservatives start looking for ways to cut back the Liberals scream Nazi and flip out.

The word Shame does not even begin to shed light on this man's stupidity, ego, and mistake.

If you are a conservative and voted this idiot into power...I would thank you for tearing apart the fabric of Wisconsin. Soon, you and your buddies will have what you want...the state all to yourselves. Why? Because after this mess is settled, those of us who believe in workers rights, those who are looking for jobs, and those who really want freedom....will all have to move to another state. Why? Because...if you keep screwing with workers rights, we'll go find a state where jobs can be had and companies, actually, have a conscience.

Look, true capitalism doesn't work any better than true communism. Both have been tried, and both failed. I always find it stupid when people step up and say they have a better way...and people follow blindly along like lemmings. We in Wisconsin tried to warn you conservatives...you didn't listen. All you saw were dollar signs...and they aren't even your dollar signs!!! $100 million in tax breaks for businesses? All the while, you screw over the middle class. Thanks..I need another place for my money to bleed out to.

Well, you will reap what you sow. I trust in the political power. I fear not the future, because I understand the past, unlike you. The reactions of the people in Wisconsin will interesting to see. The backlash that is coming will be HUGE. An you'll have no one to blame but yourselves. So, to all Republican middle class sheep that voted this dimwit in office...enjoy your lower functioning government, private schools (you won't be sending your kids to public schools much longer...Walker's getting rid of them ([link] ) $900 million in cuts to schools?? Wow, I'm glad I don't have kids in school in this state...they won't have any where to go soon...And you can thank your buddy Walker...and his financial buddies...All a bunch of morons that you voted for. Hope you enjoy your dumbed down children and higher taxes...that will be coming to, after Walker has to start paying out all that unemployment because of all these teacher layoffs.

Everyone:

Do you see this man? He is a fool. Not only a conservative (by American standards), but a damned fool. I live in Wisconsin, where Mr. Walker is Governor. I have seen the protests and the demonstrations. I've spoken with comrades in state about what we may do to fight the good fight. I urge you all, wherever you are, to stand up for workers rights, to not let what has happened here to happen to you. This is one small step by the bourgeoisie to destroy our rights, to roll back the clock on labor. We must do everything we can to stop them.

the four states, one from the bottom consecutively, that score the lowest high-school SAT's, ACT's and other state-based student skills assessment are the only other states that do not allow teachers their collective bargaining rights. Wisconsin is, for now, 4th from the top in the assessments. Will pissed off, overly-underpaid teachers teach very happily? hell no, we fall back into the 60's saying "those who can, work. Those who can't, teach". One sick twisted fascist step forward, two progressive leftist egalitarian steps back.

haha, ok. Here's a recommendation, go read "The German Ideology" by Karl Marx, if you're not up to that, start with "Marx for Beginners," by Rius, and if even that is too much, try just watching the news, when you've done that, and maybe have something real to say, come back and we'll talk about how bad an idea communism is.

Agreed, Shame. not to mention I see conservatoon doesn't understand the fact that most teachers don't have the time to work on 3/4th's their time due to the fact that they usually have 2 to 3 extra other jobs and some still don't have enough to even buy a two room apartment. Not to mention they have to put up with kids and teens who don't even want to be there much less care about what they are teaching. They also have to deal with bomb threats, suicidal teens (I can tell you from experience as a suicidal teen with depression), stupid and humiliating pranks, ect. It is hard to be a teacher, and they are very underpaid with little benefits already, repeating what fox news says doesn't make it true. How about you go out and actually talk to a teacher for once instead of sitting on your butt and browsing blogs and watching Extreme right wing propaganda. As the daughter of a Union worker Collective bargaining has it's place in society, Benefits and pay aren't the only thing that need to be discussed with collective bargaining. Workers need to bargain their hours, the class size (which effects grades of students if the classes are too large), What weather conditions they are working in, where they are working in, and how they interact with government. Without these benefits it causes chaos, big businesses start to run the country like back when unions were formed. Monopolies run wild because companies (not all companies either, some might not be) are very greedy. Some companies in my area don't even have to pay taxes, which would help get us out of debt if we did. Did you know Unions helped with getting rid of child labor and allowed women to get maternal leaves through collective bargaining and such? I bet you didn't because you probably don't even look at anything to do with unions. I am glad that unions came and I didn't have to work in a coal mine to help support my family as a child, cause black lung doesn't seem so great for me. On a side note, Rioting against taxpayers? They ARE the taxpayers. As Scott Walker has made clear, he has stated that the use of collective bargaining was a Budget issue, by taking out all budget things but that and then passing it without a quorum stated that he was LYING and this was completely about Union busting and his ties with the Koch brothers most likely sparked this. (I mean he was an idiot who laid out his entire true colors over a prank call, I mean come on really?)

Anyway I wanted to say good job and add some things in. I'll be sure to link this to my father and grandfather who work for IBEW. I'm sure they'll love it

Ps: I expect him to be recalled and I can't wait to see it.

I could just as easily say don't be a pawn of right wing capitalist apologists. The legislation Walker pushed through gets rid of collective bargaining and forces public employees to pay more for pensions and health care benefits. I don't know what you think busting unions, public or private, will achieve, but if it's a loss of rights, a worse economy and step down the road towards plutocracy you might just get it.

egovsego In reply to Conservatoons [2011-03-13 19:24:06 +0000 UTC]

The teachers are not over paid. If they seem over paid it's because the majority of workers are underpaid. Wisconsin might be broke, but that's just because corporate interests have sucked all of the money out of the state. Corporations have been making more money than ever but wages have been pretty stagnant since the 80's, which means the pie has grown huge but the people actually making it are getting a smaller portion of it than they have in decades. That lack of wages leads to less taxes which leads at least in part, to a broke state. Unions are not rioting against tax payers, union members are also tax payers themselves, they want to keep their rights, their rights are your rights. You're probably thinking that unions use their money to influence politics, and they do, the union members are paid with tax dollars to render a service to the people, they then give part of their wages to the unions, which support the politicians they believe support labor rights. In this case they are in a fight with corporations, because the people make corporations money by working for them, and by being the consumers of their products, we don't really have a choice in that in this society, so it is as good as a tax, and those corporations, that all have profits as their bottom line, the driving force behind everything they do, then use the money they make from people to lobby for or against legislation and to support the campaigns of politicians that will enable them to make the largest profits possible, by say, busting unions, repealing workers rights, stopping regulation of health and environmental practices. So take your pick, public unions that use the collective money to support politicians that support the people, or corporations that use the collective money to support politicians that support corporate interests, which are often not the interests of the people at all.

Not only are the Wis teachers overpaid, they have a 3/4 time job.

Collective bargaining is not a right it is a power. One that civil servant have long abused. Wis has fixed that. Bravo.

A huge expense of all govts are pensions/entitlements. Civil servants now have far too generous benies compared to private.

They are rioting for their own interests over that of taxpayer. Get real. Unions have twisted many teachers into some of the most selfish on the planet.

THis is govt workers (our employees) vs. taxpayers (the people who produce). Corporations are not involved here.

Get in the game.

Wisconins had a surplus at the beginning of the year, after tax cuts to corporations, Gov. Scott Walker had managed to turn a surplus of $120 million into a deficit of $137 million; that means that within a few months Scott Walker had cost the state of Wisconsin $257 million. all public employees pensions count for only 6% of the budget, so that means that even if public employees are cut completely (way farther than Scott walker could get away with) it would only offset the budget $8.2 million leaving a deficit of $128 million (remember, this is me being generous and considering if all public employee pensions where cut), and Wisconsin is still down $248 million than it was in the beginning of the year. you said "You do the math" so I did.

You do realize that the suppression of organized labor is a major characteristic of fascism. Fascists traditionally have a scapegoat, yours are the teachers, even though teachers have the lowest paying job for a masters degree. heres Dr. Laurence W. Brett's article on the 14 defining characteristics of fascism. [link]

Fascism was born out of unregulated capitalism and is the corporate usurpation of government. The Italians had a synonym for it "estato Corporativo," the corporate state. you clearly are very mislead on what fascism is and where it originated. In 1907 Jack London published the book "The Iron Heal" which describes unregulated and unchecked capitalism's slow descent into an oligarchical plutocracy. up until the 40's paperback books where poor quality and hardly used, only expensive hardback books where printed, this book was only released in Italy as an even more expensive edition to keep it in the hands of the "wealthy elite." this book made it's way to Benito Mussolini, and as a part of what would become the plutocracy, he naturally sympathize with the corporate heads, and set off to create the plutocracy naming it Fascism. The book you referred to made no connection to "The Iron Heal," and leaves out other major portions of the development of fascism along with a major misconception of both history and the characteristics of fascism.

BTW mentioning a book like this without using it as a source to back up arguments is called a red heiring and means you don't really know, your simply diverting the argument. you have made no effort to make a rebuttal to either points.

this conversation is making me sick...especially walkers little defendant here.
I spoke with the man who sits accross the table from the "collective bargaining mouth" of public worker unioins. He blatently told me that had that mouth not been present, in numerous occasions, unfathomably terrible things would have happened to public workers on multiple occasions.

teachers go to college for a minimum of four years, any other profession requiring four years of schooling pays far more than the pitiful 6,000 dollars a month that a teacher makes. They, statistically speaking, take home 50 hours of work in a week outside of the work they do at school, before school and over the summer as they prepare for the next school year. They also are expected to pay out of their own pockets for many of the things a classroom may participate in.

80 percent of public workers are married. They can take the pay cut given their additional income. But the union busting, like the representative i talked to said is likely to devastate public workers in a way we can't begin to imagine quite yet.

Conservatoons In reply to GoodJobCastro [2011-03-15 03:15:35 +0000 UTC]

So teachers are braindead then? They know what their pay will be then complain and are all supposed to care? DOn't they get the whole summer off? Last time I checked a guy at Walmart works yr round. Unions spend 90% of their time protecting the worst 5% of their workers. They are not needed today - which is why they are largely extinct in the pub sector.

1. no hippies statement is complete bull-shit!
2. no, teachers are not in any way brain-dead.
They do know the pay, but part of being in
"the teaching business" is having a say in
workers rights. They know the pay and in
that right they should have a right to
keeping it fair (which really it isn't now)
3. no, they don't get the whole summer off.
nearly their entire summer is spent working
a second job and preparing for the next
school-year.
4. as i said before, i have the opinion of
someone who attends budget meeting with the
collective bargaining mouth, and he
reassured me that without that mouth
teachers would have, and now will, be
unbelievably shafted.
5. walmart workers work year-round...
whoo-fecking-hoo! I stand by it, the bull-
shit your feeding about how little teachers
work is pathetic. Actually find out how
much a teacher works then talk about it!
