Great stuff.

It really has an African feel! Great choice of colours, too.

Watercolours sometimes have a will of their own, but that's what I like about them

Again, I'm at a loss of words at how great your water colors skills are. The colors contrast really well with the ultramarine blue of and the vermillion- keep going, it looks fantastic!

Thank you! I'm glad you like the colors; one of the best things about watercolors, I think, is the lovely, stained-glasslike colors that they make.

Yup yup. Stained glass and stuff.

Your painting skills are amazing. There is so much detail in every part of this painting, and it feels very African and symbolic. Sable antelope are very majestic creatures, and you captured their spirit perfectly in this painting. I also love your colour choice, particularly the blues and green at the top, combined with the rich red. The three basic colours compliment each other; this is a truly beautiful work of art. May I ask what inspired you to paint this? You said that it had a mind of its own, but you must have been inspired by something, right? It's just so... perfect. Sorry for the text wall, I just can't express how much I love this.

Thank you so much for the kind words. The inspiration behind this was a particular type of watercolor painting that I've seen; one with a simple but lifelike animal painted against a great expanse of flowing color. Something like this: [link] or this [link] or maybe like this [link] (...sort of...Those are close, but it's harder than I thought to find the style I was picturing)
I began with the only two running antelope in blue, but when I tried to do the background, the red got away and tried to take over the picture, and then the antelope grew too dark to include any detail. I thought I'd ruined it, but instead as I worked on it the painting took on a different, more tribal and symbolic style.

I'm glad you like it!

I see what you mean, and it sounds like a really cool style of painting. Maybe one that I'll experiment with sometime. Thank you for taking the time to respond, and of course no problem, you deserve the compliments. . I have one more question; what brand of watercolours did you use? I can never seem to find a brand this bright and clean.

Normally I use a set called "Soho Urban Artist Watercolor", and I like those very much.
But for this painting I was using some ancient paints that I found in a closet that are in liquid form rather than a tube or a tray. I believe the brand is "Colorations Liquid Watercolor" and they're labeled to be for kids (but they still turned out to have surprisingly nice colors)
I'm not sure if I'd recommend that brand; I think I got rich colors simply from the quantity of pigment that I used. Normally I am much more conservative with the amount of paint I use.
Hope that helps
