cool. i love the fine little detail you put into it. you've got amazing skill with vector art! if you don't mind i'll use it as my desktop wallpaper.
btw, do you use adobe illustrator?

Thanks. Sure, go ahead; I use my stuff as my backdrop all the time, and this one's done duty for that.

I use pretty much nothing but Illustrator.

i see. how long have you been using it? sorry for asking so much... right now i'm wondering if i should try doing vector art.

According to the file dates on my computer, my first .AI file was last touched on October 27, 1999, at 1:25 in the morning. It's not around on the net, and the earliest of my pieces available here is my third one , from late November of that year. (DA's file dates are wrong, as Feb03 is when I started a gallery here and uploaded a smattering of older stuff.) It wasn't until a year later that I felt confident enough to ditch outlines; most of my early AI work, except for this one, relied on scanned inks.

Sure, try it! It's like any other medium - it has its strengths and its weaknesses, and its own particular best workflows to figure out. Its strengths fit well with mine; I was drawn to expanses of flat color long before I had AI. You can do lots of modelling in vector work; some people do some really complex photo-real stuff, but I always feel like it's exactly what the medium's not for, like trying to use charcoal for technical precision...

wow... o.O you sure have been using AI for a long time! and i thought that your third piece was pretty good. better than what my third try would be like, i bet.
thanks for the encouragement, i think i really might try it, it's an interesting alternative to simply drawing with the brush tool in photoshop. i like your style of vector art, by the way. i feel it really does bring out the beauty of vectoring. i've had no experience in it personally, though, and i plan to source around for tutorials and explore illustrator on my own for a bit.
thank you for sharing, i'm glad that you gave such an in depth reply!

No, never heard of it... this is mostly inspired by the half-remembered work of illustrator Hilary Knight, and me being a tentacle fetishist.

thanks!

I love all the tentacles! I saw the big one first,and then slowly I realized how many there were--all the different shapes and sizes. I particularly like the colors in this as well.

! This is just so unique and it just begs you to stare at the details to try to figure out what they are.

I'm wallpapering this one, oh yeah.
Reminds me of something straight out of HP Lovecraft, a scene filled with unnamed horrors that man was meant never to witness. Horrid leviathans of aeons past that would drive a person mad were they to ever realize how ancient and terrible these spectral creatures are.
...Yeah, tentacles are cool.

Very cryptic - again, your composition really draws the viewer in, the contrast between detail and non is very effective - jarring, but not offensively so. And yes, tentacles are love. *scalp love*
Wish I could give a more interesting comment, but I can't. Oh well. ^_^;
