All eyes left Sherlock. And instead, they zeroed in on John, who – despite the painful height-difference between himself and Anderson – was looking suddenly angry enough to make the taller boy take an involuntary step backwards. Sally cut her eyes at him, and Anderson attempted to brush his less-than-satisfactory reaction off. He gave a snort.
“What’s wrong, John?” he taunted. “Did I offend you?”
“Don’t.” John’s voice was a growl. But Anderson only laughed.
“Why? Why shouldn’t I?” he demanded. “It’s not my fault that he’s just… he’s so wrong!” He jabbed a finger viciously towards Sherlock who, up until now, stood against the wall, his pale eyes trained on the floor. John glanced at him, and saw that those eyes were now fixed on him, filled with a sort of nervous, curious hope. John tightened his hands into fists.
“Just because he’s different doesn’t mean he’s ‘wrong’, Anderson!”
And he smashed his fist into the taller boy’s sneer.
