The simplistic nature of the colours and lack of detail is really nice.
Amazing how much texture there is through like it said, lack of graininess to the ground for example, or roughness to the rocks.

Hmm, I haven't. A lot of people already think that there's some story going on behind it but I see a lot of people add people in their paintings to give a sense of scale. And red goes well with green. Adds a nice contrast or something. But maybe I will, someday. c: Thanks!

I highly suggest it! Adding a story also adds value to the painting. It will give your work a creative aspect that you haven't thought about before. Give the character a destination and quest, and fulfill the quest with your art.
