Description Uadjit d'Azur in the TKC World Dog Show 2014

Felt like drawing one of my dogs / tackling fur again. I really like this technique (colour over lineart in bits to later remove it) and hopefully can use it on my Shedus in future.

Breed: Saluki
Group: 10, Sighhounds
Name of the dog with titles: Uadjit d'Azur
Ref: fav.me/d5jzusb
Color: Black Particolour
Age: 3 Years
Gender: Female
Country: Australia
Owner: Snowgum Ridge

"Are you sure she'll be alright?"

Adrianne frowned as the young dog stood calmly in the backseat, wagging her feathered tail. The car was not her concern. The eighteen hour flight - not including stop overs - did.

"What if she gets lost in Hong Kong?"

Aamir shut the boot. "She'll be fine, don't worry. You know I'd never let her get lost."

That was true - it was hard to tell what Aamir loved more sometimes, horses or his beloved dogs. He'd brought Seb with him from Egypt, and a slew of successful titles and a side kennel had followed. Now a handful of Salukis from a tiny Australian kennel were competing on the world stage, thanks to the work of one man. And there was little doubt the lengths he would go to to ensure their safety. If it were possible to book dogs seats on flights, he would have.

Despite her steadfast dedication to the horses, Adriane like many on the stud had grown attached to the Salukis - she'd often blame the fact that they possessed that same Arabian energy and beauty that had first made her agree to ride for the farm. And it seemed that the farm's dogs would be following in the same champion's footsteps.

"Just don't miss your connections okay?"

Aamir grinned. "Never."

Nearly a week later, glad to be safely indoors, man and dog arrived at the bustling venue. Parking was a pain, but thankfully with a hefty bank account behind you hiring a taxi wasn't so difficult. Dija seemed to be coping better with the freezing conditions than Aamir, although both were bred for the sand and the sun. Warmth.

Inside, there was the now familiar bustle of organised chaos, with the sounds of barking and yapping background noise soon to be ignored. There were further concerns; unlike with the previous hound they'd taken here - Niut - Dija was no seasoned veteran. Merely three years of age, and still as green as the grass in spring, there were serious concerns from all sides about her ability to handle a competition like this. But an armful of trophies and sashes from local shows back home and Aamir's insistence saw them both here today, to compete at the World Dog Show.

Mindful of the young dog's tendency to maintain her personal space, Aamir left her well guarded with a compatriate of his from the UAE, to go and have a look around the new layout. It wouldn't do to get her all worked up before the show began. All around him were frantic last minute preparations, dogs being brushed within an inch of their life, tempers fraying, shouts for missing leads and dropped pins. He smiled. The world of showing was so much more than pretty dogs and standing straight in a ring.

Thanks! I find dog anatomy a bit weird, but it all turned out quite well here, I was especially pleased with my paws (why are feet always the hardest?)
