I recommend because I've heard of people suggesting it to little kids, thinking it was like Card Captor Sakura = not good D:, but them again, I'm the sort of person that watch/read/play things regardless of knowing spoilers or not, so I read about the anime before watching it (it's not what we are supposed to do, but I guess it helped me to not get too shocked with episode 3 XD)

I actually think the shock value helped me in appreciating the deconstruction the series presented, because it was unexpected. xD The series was a complete (but pleasant) surprise for me. I initially didn't want to watch it because it was cute, but a friend told me to watch it anyway "because the series was good", and that was all she said. In the end it turned out to be one of my favourite series. But I guess that's different for everyone. xD

But yes, episode 3. AND IT ONLY GETS WORSE if you think about. xD;

Suggesting it to kids? That's...not good. If anyone's remotely knowledgeable about anime, they wouldn't recommend anything to kids based on art style alone. And if you've watched it, you know not to reccommend it to kids. xD Higurashi looks cute too, but I wouldn't recommend it to children either. xD;

Same for Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei, some screenshots looks cute, but it has a very dry humor on it.

I did know the serie was gloomy and all, but I didn't know how exactly was that, so I got the shock on episode 3 anyway XD. But I think the ones that were most depressing were the Sayaka-centered ones. But they weren't as shocking as the 3rd one to me, probably because after that episode you kind of expect things won't be rainbows and sunshines anymore XD.

Not to mention the ending (Magia - Kalafina) gives me chills, I just love that song.

Yeah, I don't think younger people would get the humour. xD; But I guess that's the case with a lot of anime. xD;

Yeah, Sayaka's definitely a tragic character. Kyouko and Homura had pretty sad bad stories as well. I guess the bittersweet ending rectifies the series a bit, but it's still not rainbows and sunshine, as you've said, which is pretty much clear after episode 3. xD The episode 3 rule definitely applies here. :'D

Yeah, that song is amazing. Then again, the show has an amazing soundtrack. <33 And I love how the opening song is so horribly deceiving. xDD;

The first two episodes are terribly deceiving, with even a "fake" happy cute ending instead of Magia XD. I just love that twist in Madoka.

I don't think there was an actual ending? I think they just showed the credits in the final scene or something. xD; Magia started playing from the 3rd episode on, which definitely underlined the effect. xD;

Oh, I watched the blue-ray version, it has a fake ending with cute bubbly song and a picture of Madoka, Sayaka and Hitomi laughing on the background. I've been told it's only available on that version and that the TV one has no credits.

Ah, yeah I watched it on the internet before there *was* a Blu-ray version, and that one didn't have an ending at all, just some credits popping up in the last scene I guess. XD; So yeah, I watched the TV version. Didn't know the Blu-ray version had an ending for those first two episodes. xD Like the art style and the opening weren't deceiving enough as it was. xD

But yes, it's a very good series and I'm glad my friend told me to watch it anyway. Homura turned out to be my favourite character. xD
