Description (World's End: Subjective Border)

I would have hoped this would be the end of a world,
but worlds do not end with a single leap into the infinite;
it takes time for another one to succeed them.

------------------

January 2005, acrylic and oil on canvas; approximately 105x72cm.

Painted for an offshoot of the Visual Language class last year at Akto; but I never got round to take photographs of it so as to upload it until now. Come to it, I never quite felt comfortable with how it turned out, either.

As with several of my later paintings (yes, I have to finish and upload -those-, too), it originated from a very small pen sketch I must have done sometime in 2002 (and one I seem to have lost, too). That one was inspired by a small picture I'd seen then, whose painter did also call it -- I think -- World's End.

I found out Tanguy only this winter. And you're right, it does remind one of his work. Then again, this vast, empty kind of landscape (which I really like to include in my works) is common in other surrealists as well.

Interesting piece! It looks almost like it was done with modelling clays......as it has a kind of 3-D look to it. Neat effect with the paint.

There's something very appealing, almost dreamlike about this picture.

I have this odd feeling like I've visited that place in a dream. It seems familiar, but not so much so that I can remember it. That's probably just the sort of eerie quality you were going for. Good job!

I suspect that it is in some sense archetypical. Adding to it the dreamy feel, it should not be surprising you find it familiar -- though I'm still glad one can find it so.

Thank you!

i'll have to start with the "bad" thingie: do you really think this frame+border suits this painting?

Leaving that aside, this is wonderful. It's somehow raw but at the same time all dreamy/visionary and totally eerie, perhaps... "trippy" like a place in our nightly dreams.. i love the use of the bluish tones and i love monument-like remnant.. I'd like to imagine this as a kind of temple, part of some unknown tradition of years of yore.

One more (and after so much time!) wonderful example of what your imagination can create my dear There's only one suggestion/idea i could come up on this: sometime, I'd like to see an oil or, perhaps a digitally made oil-like version of this, i think it'd add a lot.

Goergous colors, amazing structure. It holds such a whimsical, but ancient feeling in it.

stranded? Perhaps you wouldn't be able to even feel the ground beneath your feet in such a place. Now that's an interesting thought...

and thanks.
