Description Hahaha... This idea sprang from my fevered brain while I was driving and I nearly crashed my car laughing about it. A little reference to Gene Roddenberry's delicious quote:

"Yes, there's certainly some of that - certainly with love overtones. Deep love. The only difference being, the Greek ideal - we never suggested in the series - physical love between the two. But it's the - we certainly had the feeling that the affection was sufficient for that, if that were the particular style of the 23rd century."

I submit that "Amok Time" resolves that particular uncertainty.

(Oh, and I'm racked with doubt as to whether or not I came up with this idea by myself. It just seems too obvious to have not been done before. So if you've seen it somewhere else, chances are I have too and didn't register it properly. In that case, all I can say is, whups, and that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery and NOT PLAGIARISM AT ALL!)

Thanks! And I totally agree with you about that quote. He was a very clever man and an absolute master of ambiguity. I just thought it would be fun to do something with the quote that kind of pointed to the fact that, as ambiguous as that quote might be, taken in conjunction with the lashings and lashings of subtle (and not so subtle - :: cough :: Amok Time, The Apple, The Corbomite Maneuver, The Motion Picture, The Search for Spock, pretty much EVERYTHING ELSE :: cough :: ) hints in the shows and the movies, it more or less makes that quote read as follows: "It's clearly not appropriate at the moment for us to come right out and say they are lovers, but that's basically because of the times we live in. If you believe that homophobia will be a thing of the past by the 23rd century, which is kind of more or less part of what Star Trek is all about - ending bigotry and promoting love and tolerance - then you need to know that they love each other deeply enough, and non-platonically enough, that they would be a couple." And this makes me squee.

Ahahaha so true.

The way I see it is that in that quote he's avoiding directly saying "they're gay" as that would cause a great deal of controversy and homophobic hatred. Instead says "they could be gay if it was acceptable in the 23rd century," because when he said it, homosexuality was frowned upon and probably people in high places (like Kirk and Spock) would avoid crossing that line between friends and lovers even if the affection was sufficient, but obviously would be different in the 23rd century.

I highly doubt he meant "if being gay was in fashion in the 23rd century" or something like that because that, honestly, is just a stupid comment. But I can't think of any other ways that comment could be taken.

Great pic I don't really care if it's been done before, the more proof of K/S's canonity the better!
