Great capture,

The gull is Tac sharp and the composition is excellent. I like how the bird is almost looking at you with an expression of "what the hell are you lookin at" at least that's what I see. Good job on this one.

Intai, la mesaje am vazut ca se cheama 'Be free' si mi-a venit in cap un pescarus. Deschid, da... pescarus.

Hi! Manual focus is very difficult to use in such situation. Rebel XT (350D) has a special focus setting called AI-Servo. If used correctly, it can predict subjects movement and calculate a very precise focus distance when the shutter is released. Moreover, the shutter speed needs to be high enough to freeze the moment. For this shot I used 1/1000 sec., ISO 400 and an f/8 aperture.

Hmmm, from what I read the only way to use AI-Servo is by using sports mode (I have a XT 350 too). Doesn't sports mode use automatic settings? Or is there a way to set the shutter speed with it? Or do you use a hack? If so which one? If I may ask that is.

Sports mode is not the only way to use AI-Servo. You can set it in all creative modes (P, Tv, Av, M etc.). Sports mode is a basic shooting mode and yes, it does use automatic settings. There is no need for hacks
