For this challenge we were allowed to pick one of the contestants from the 2011 Miss. Universe competition. Out of my top three I was assigned Miss. USA, Alyssa Campanella of L.A., California. [link]

Aside from our first pick we were also allowed to create for our second, so I'll be adding that one soon: Miss. Italy, Elisa Torrini. [link]

Our goal: to create a competition gown for the contestant.

Now I'm a major fan of classic lines and historical hints (if you haven't noticed that already...). I wanted to keep it simple after looking through pictures of some of her previous gowns, so for the main gown, I went with a style that would have fit in many fashion eras back to the 1950's here in the States. The gown it's self would be snowy white with an matte metallic navy (I saw this fabric at our hobby store and its odd and pretty at the same time). I didn't want to add red to it because her hair is such a vibrant tone in many of her photos.
The little bolero references the uniforms of the Colonists during the American Revolution and would be piped with gold silk thread.
I kept her hair down in reference to some of our vintage beauties. Think Rita Hayworth.

Oh, and before anyone comments on her 'amputated' arms... ><... I did that on purpose in order to show the full side of the gown. It's just something I do. And another note: I drew this while waiting at the Dr.'s office and I really didn't want to mess with it anymore because I liked the way the red china pencil looked... and the dried out highlighter... and my BiC pen...
