The Blue Blur. The Scarlet Speedster.
The fastest kids in fiction and we have yet to see them race each other. (isn't that crazy?!)
Personally my money's on the flash (clocked past the speed of light), but since no one's ever clocked Sonic's top speed (once raced fast enough to reset time three days on his planet in the comics), who knows?
And yes, I know there should probably be dust clouds or something, I just felt a little lazy and didn't want to bother trying to figure it out.

Heh.. I have a really old drawing on this subject that I submit to dA a few months after you. Flash regularly runs at speeds that allow time travel and travel to alternate universes. Versions of the character have eliminated crime in Central City by stopping it preemptively at every moment it is about to occur, maintaining a speed so high that they literally have to be moving at all times. Barry Allen has literally out run death. I haven't seen Sonic do anything remotely close to this, ever.

I would put my money on Sonic, not just because I'm a huge fan of Sonic, but because even though it hasn't been clocked, there has been many times when Sonic has shown he could break through speeds that were just un-imaginable!
Than again I'm also into the Flash, who in JL went so fast that he almost faded into nothingness... I think while i put my money on Sonic, It would be a pretty close race, I think a big factor is that being able to run as fast as the flash can, he comes with a weakness, that is he has to constantly eat, I remember hearing that His metabolism was at a super, and as a trade off for his super powered speed he needed to constantly eat something...
Whereas Sonic on the other hand doesn't need to, and could run without getting tired (he was even shown running non-stop in his sleep in Sonic X)
And as for "Vacation-Avenger's" comment about The Flash going back in time and tripping Sonic Lets not forget Sonic could easily use the Chaos Emeralds and go Super which lets him not only go even faster, but he could stop, free, control time...

The Flash because Sonic's got to pick up a pair a sneakers to run fast (from the game) and it only last so long.

That was just a thing of the game, it really doesn't have much to do with what Sonic is actually suppose to be able to do...
Besides lets just say in the game they let Sonic run as fast as his being could handle, how would you play the game?
You'd be off the screen dead before you could even blink....
Hence why the game designed the Speed up Shoes....
In other sources that don't need to place a limit on his speed, he's shown what he could do, and left it obvious that if he really wanted to push the button he could probably go faster...

OK i love sonic and i love your drawing but i would never cheat sonic the flash would win he is just faster than sonic the flash can vibrate through walls and he can pass the speed of light.
But sonic would be the only one who could keep up with the flash for a while.

But your forgetting in the time it takes the Flash to vibrate through the walls, Sonic could go through them or passed them...

Race would never end in a tie, Flash is the fastest character ever made, he moves faster than the speed of light just 4 fun, dont believe me,check out Smallville Episode Run, he leaves Superman behind. Sonic can only go probably 5X the speed of sound.

Agreed, (I'm a fanboy of both, hence the pic) but still, wouldn't it be an awesome race anyway, if only for sake of seeing two people who are the best at what they do do what they do best? (tongue twister, anyone?)

I just happened upon this! I do believe it would be a tie... although Sonic actually has been clocked at running faster than the speed of sound, and the speed of light is faster... Nice concept, though. Well done!

I don't think its really clocked in at Sonic's top speed, in most media it just says "Sonic can travel at speeds faster than sound"
But you gotta take into consideration the other times when it shows Sonic breaking those limits, and easily going even faster than what any record has ever shown, in other words no real record has been taken...
As for the flash, his lock down record is faster than the speed of light, just to the point of where a second longer than the few minutes he goes in this top speed that he would actually fade away into nothingness...
In JL Flash had to save everyone and so he had to reach speeds faster than he has ever gone, he ran so fast that his body started to fade, he ended up saving everyone a second before he would have actually vanished for good, due to his body's limit....
Sonic hasn't really shown any real Limit to his speed...

You're referring only to cartoon Wally. In the comics, it's confirmed that Wally West can easily travel at in excess of the speed of light, entering and exiting the Speed Force at will, though it takes a lot out of him. This goes without saying that he also has a number of other skills, such as literally compressing the air beneath his feet to travel through the air for short periods of time with the precision of a flier, the ability to vibrate through solid objects (depending on the Flash you're referring to, with varying levels of success), and the ability to move at such speeds that the world around him literally comes to a halt. And all this WITHOUT having to rely on magical flashy gems.
Sonic could outrun cartoon Flash, sure, because he's easily winded and young, without the experience of older counterparts.
Besides that, I posted this comment literally more than three years ago and this is really, beyond that, the only thing I have to say on the subject.
