Emilie Autumn in blue, using this lovely photo [link] as a reference.
Done in Photoshop. Finished June 30, 2010.
I'm so wonderfully happy with this!
The main focus is supposed to be on her face, so I realize that some other parts of it are blurry. Ringlets are a challenge!No tracing or over-painting.

D'awww..'Tis a shame! Usually what I do is double the size of my painting if my reference image is small.

I still don't feel like I'm using the right painting techniques.

When I paint, I usually don't use the soft brushes unless I'm painting something like clouds. I'll stick with a squarish or rectangle brush and lay down the colors in 100% opacity.
Then I blend the colors at around 20-30% opacity.
I dunno, that's just my basic method. Everyone has their own style, but it wouldn't hurt to try painting a picture slightly larger, say 300x500 pixels.

Oh, interesting. I'm accustomed to using the 1px small round brush, *maybe* the 3px one. XD Though for painting I'll use the larger ones, but still the soft ones. I'll have to try it that way, thanks!

I just do little bits at a time. And I spent hours on it last night [the ringlets were shaded and the fluffy hair and background painted last night] until 10. xD You wouldn't believe how long those ringlets took me.

I was contacted by Mr. Rawson to design some Gryphons for the sports teams, and these designs will be put on sports apparel!!
Yay!!! Haha, I'm excited!!!! I have to do one for each of the 7 sports teams.
On top of that, I am also doing one for a welcome to the class of 2014, and there is one I did during the schoolyear that is being used for other Gryphon spirit stuff!
