Description I always preferred the original look of Venom. Some of the later designs are a little over the top for my taste. The original is simple and somehow frightening, like Spider-Man gone...well, evil.

Absolutely! Anything after feels more like a caricature than a Venom.

In my opinion, over the top is not the way to go with him.

yes i agree the classic version of venom is genuinely creepy. You've used that style really well, particularly with the close-up one, that is perfect!

Thanks for the compliment.

Yeah there was something subtle and terrifying about Venom's original design.

Oh well, at least we can draw him any way we want to.

very true. Now if only the writers would have the same attitude Venom could be great again.

I love the "old" traditional styles you use in your art. What medium is this? Scratchboard? If not how do you get all the black in there so well? I've been wanting to do comics like this for a long time, yet I have no idea what medium to use. Your advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks for the compliments! I use mainly a heavy paper like Bristol board, which can be found at almost any art store, otherwise you can get some from bluelinepro.com.

I like to use brush and ink with a combination of tech. pens and other odd tools to get various effects.

Sometimes in order to get the nice rich blacks (especially for larger areas) you have to go over an area more than once and always keep your brush nice and loaded.
