Her family was thrilled that the heir of such a prominent family was interested in their daughter. Their assumptions weren't baseless--she was going to be his wife eventually, everyone knew that. A man and a woman didn't dance the way these two did and didn't marry. There were other signs of course--he allowed her to unwind his scarf from around his face, and hadn't inflicted a beating on anyone afterward for staring at his scarred face. When they danced, circling one another--one of his arms wrapped possessively around her waist while his free hand held one of hers--he hid his face in her hair. From the dazed look she got in her eyes, it wasn't hard to figure out what he was saying as he spoke to her.

And if her family looked the other way when their daughter crept out of the wagon at night, the rest of the group made sure to also look away when she spent the night with the older man. His aunt and uncle were the group leaders, and they passed no judgment--good or bad--on their nephew.
