Description Well, I've been working on this on and off for awhile. I finally decided that rather than trying to make everything look real I just went crazy with the colours. I haven't yet decided whether I totally hate it or like it.

I may end up taking this down, after I stare at it for awhile.

Done in photoshop with the mouse, I love critiques!

I'm not an expert when it comes to digital art, but your crazy use of colours has created a colour scheme that is very interesting to look at. The picture is very nicely done overall, however, there are a few things you could work on.

Like Peachfuzz said the palm trees would look better if they curved more. I also think that colouring the water would complement the greens and browns of your picture.

Overall, however, you have done a fabulous job.

Not bad at all! I love the painterly techniques you've used on the trees. You also did a great job with the depth, by making the foreground trees crisp and clear and the backdrop blurred like that. Great work with the shadows as well! That adds depth as well, especially with the mottled coloration of the ground. That's much more realistic for the shadows of leafy trees and the texture of the ground than flat colors would have been.

For the palm trees, I think their trunks would look better if they were less uniform in width. By that I mean that the trunks should taper more and be less like straight sticks. Also, the stems of the palms in the brightly lit areas should be colored with a lighter brown than the ones in the shadows.

My only other critique would concern the "water". I believe that white stuff is water, at any rate. I think that because of the tree reflections on it near the bottom-left of the piece, but the plain white otherwise does not resemble water at all. The rest of the piece has such meticulous shading and detail, and the water is predominantly a flat white. Because of this, it appears to be unfinished. I would suggest adding more texture to it, as well as more color. Water is highly reflective and picks up all of the colors around it, so you could color it with some blue from the sky, and greens from the trees, in conjunction with white highlights. But all white just doesn't look real at all.

Great work, all and all. Don't let my critiques make you think otherwise! This is quite well done.

Thanks so much for the critique, I live for comments like this.

That's some great ideas about the water. I agonized about how to draw it, because it's such a unique substance. I like the idea of mixing the trees with the sky for reflection in the water.

First things: I like it, but I do not think it belongs in surreal. The scene looks like one you might see in real life. A girl by a forest path, overlooking a river. So it's more of a landscape to me.

Taking into consideration you did it with a mouse and not a drawing pad, I'm impressed. I really like the reflection of the trees. Very realistic. The delicate features on the trees branches are very good, too. The only thing I do not like is the ferns -- they don't look quite full enough, I think. Overall, great.

Hmm, I'm not very good with categories, I wish they had an impressionistic category, then I would know where to put it.

Also, they were supposed to be palms, but they do look really ferny not that you mentioned it.

Thanks!

saw it in the forum--- its good!!and yeah- its most definitely obviously water. if it didnt have the reflection it would look like a ridiculously white path, but with the reflections its pretty water. and i love the trees! very nice.

I'm glad you can tell it's water, I wasn't sure how clear that is.
