Thank you again. :) I can't remember how long this one took me since it's from a while ago, but several hours spread out over a few days. I know that's pretty vague, sorry about that! Hope it helps answer your question a little, at least!

How long does it take to create this level of detail?
Inspired me to paint. (Also looked at both painting step tips)

ah.. so it took days to make this... :0
I thought the process would be profound enough to do in one sitting, unless you work on and off on multiple projects as they come.
Do you perhaps know of any good tips or tuts to help a person get a good foot in the door when they go through the process of painting? (thanks for the reply~)

eldrige In reply to Tisserovehicks [2015-07-18 06:43:35 +0000 UTC]
Yup, it takes a good amount of time! In raw hours it could be finished in one day, but for me personally the result comes out better if I break it up over the course of a few days. This lets me keep viewing it with a fresh eye, as well as not become tired while painting it.
I have a couple painting process images in my gallery that I think you've viewed, other than that I would suggest jumping in and painting stuff you enjoy! Looking up tutorials here or on youtube is great to help inspire you, and you can also learn a lot by watching livestreams by other artists. But you'll still learn the most by doing the actual act of drawing itself. :)
Hope that helps a bit!

oh yeah, how big is the canvas size on average?

eldrige In reply to Tisserovehicks [2015-07-18 21:32:29 +0000 UTC]
Varies, small paintings or sketches tend to be around 3,000px on the longest side, larger paintings are between 6,000 - 10,000 px on the longest side.
I think a good general size to start out with is between 3,000 - 5,000 px on the longest side.

I think in general the more details you have in a painting, the longer it will take. Or I'm just a slow painter, haha.
Have fun! :)

Well painting slowly surely pays off, though I would like to find an understandable yet quick way to paint eficiently since I actually don't have that much time on my hands, heheh.
how's this look so far; messing around with brush settings, I got a fur brush:
prntscr.com/7ub1vq
already got overlays, normal and multiply layers going but now I nee to know how to smoothen and have it not be so completely lineless.

UGH THE FUR DETAIL IS SO INTRICATE. HOW ON EARTH DO YOU DO THAT?! XD I try to make the fur that intricate and I get nothing. Amazing work, as usual though. It actually seems to get better than it ever was before. I thought that wasn't possible until now. o_o

it looks so detailed!! O_O seeing stuff like this makes me wanna think of other cool stuff for you to draw!! does making the image like this add costs? like adding items, hats and stuff?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
eldrige In reply to Charlymander [2014-06-18 06:41:09 +0000 UTC]
Thanks!
It depends on what the items are. If they're very intricate - like the hat pattern and lute in this one are - it will be considered a "Character Painting" instead and be painted in my normal style, which is much more detailed, like in the above painting. The rates for these types of paintings is not the same as my regular Pokemon paintings.
If the objects are not overly detailed, they'll remain in the $20-$40 base "Pokemon Painting" price range and rendered in my normal Pokemon style, like in these paintings:
eldrige.deviantart.com/art/Com… - the hair being an example of an added OC design
eldrige.deviantart.com/art/Com… - and in this one, the cape
Whether the items are included or added to the base Pokemon price depends on the complexity of the items themselves - I would need to see references in order to tell. :)
Rates for both types of paintings are listed in the journal ^^ eldrige.deviantart.com/journal…
