Description Hylia paced the floor in front of him as she ranted, a millennia of questions and accusations spilling at every pass she made before him. And each time she asked a new question, he would simply stare at her with an unreadable expression on his face.
It infuriated her.
"And why are you even choosing me, of all people? You are the God of Protection, the ever neutral deity among all peoples!"
He simply stared at her, eyes which used to scare her unblinking as he watched her pace. His silence was deafening to her.
"If anyone calls on you," she continued as she made yet another lap in front of him, "you must answer their cries regardless of their side on the battlefield! How can you honestly do that when you are fighting on my side of this war?" She stopped her pacing, feeling as though one more lap would wear a hole in the floor and send her careening down to the land of Hyrule and into the heart of the ongoing battle between her forces and those of Demise. "You will be punished for abandoning the people. Are you prepared to deal with that?"
Silence.
"The Goddess of Time told me that this war will last for far longer than any war ever seen by the gods! Are you really willing to fight that long?"
Blank-faced silence.
Tears began to well up in her eyes as she felt her heart shatter. How can he, a God much older than she, be so willing to risk everything for her war? Not even a silly war between the peoples. This was a war between the Gods themselves. Between herself and Demise! If he were to fight, the Golden Goddesses would punish him. Punish him. Punish her Fierce Deity for coming to help her. Punish her dear friend for being the only one who was willing to do something to help her. All of this and for what reason?
"Why?" The question came out as a broken note. And even though she had been ranting and raving to him for the longest time, this one word seemed to echo throughout the chamber. Each echo ringing louder and louder in her ears as that face remained still and constant. Unreadable. Almost disinterested.
"You are Her Grace. Mother of Hyrule, lover of Wisdom. And you mean to tell me that you haven't figured it out?" His voice was low, but strong. It silenced the echo instantly. But his question hit Hylia between the eyes. She stepped back and looked away from his eyes.
"I-" she started, "I had a feeling... but it scared me to think that you'd-" she stopped herself short at the thought. While those who fought for Demise and Hylia were mortal, they were not. But if Demise were to strike...
"I will fight for you until my final breath, Hylia. I said I'd be there to help you when you asked and I'm making good on that promise."
The distance between them was too great. But she closed it as quickly as she could. She would never remember the feeling of falling from the ledge where he was sitting, but she felt the impact of everything they would have to do the moment their lips met. For the God of Protection to choose a side is to abandon his duty. His punishment would be great.
But in this moment, she didn't care. And from the way his hand gently held her face, she knew he didn't care either.
