Description Several concepts for Jaldithas' project Terazoic:

  • Podarge: A secretarybird-like caracara that preys on small animals.
  • Monkey coati (Ambulonasua phitecinus): Large, baboon-like coati.
  • Anvil-headed armadillo, (Armatodasypus incudocephalus): Large armadillo with a non-articulated body shell, spiky tail armor, and an elongated helmet plate.

looks great, thanks for this animals Podarge and armadillo are definitely canonised, just not sure about the ambulonasua, because i dont want keep procyonids as survivors, because they would most likely prevent marsupials from taking carnivore niches (in this case, think about civets or cat-like bodyforms) and they would indeed also suffer from massive (or even complete) deforestation as they live predominantly in forests
Do you have more info about that armadillo? It seems that its not typical small burrowing armadillo,it rather looks like smaller omnivorous glyptodon for me

I´m sure several South American procyonids will survive to the extinction (especially coaties, which are able to live in quite arid areas)and they won´t usurp all carnivorous niches, due to the destructive magnitude of the extinction which you predict.
About the armadillo, it was an "out of the blue", so I don´t have many info; just that it has a large size in comparishon with other species and it has omnivorous diet.
Ah, name for Podarge comes from the ancient "swift legged" harpy so named. For specific name I propose Podargornis sp.

indeed, but they would be still in advantage in claiming this niches over marsupials.
Imagine America after extinction event as arid place with lot of deserts, some of them even toxic, irradiated and nearly lifeless, and very few arid grasslands

By the way, what will lead to the Holocene-Terazoic extinction?

Mostly anthropogenic activity [massive deforestation, spreading agriculture)looks what happened to Aral se..saline desert,or how easily can overgrazing helps desertification),pollution, overpopulation, wars and so on] together with eruption of ...*sigh* of Yellowstone supervolcano,in following years after eruption impact winter caused a great glacial period, which made from earth even drier place.

Even so I don´t think that will turn the planet Earth into a harsh desert. Note that, in the past, worse situations had far more benign consequences.

well, thats your opinion,I think that our species is catable of making a great extinction, human species is not going to be extinct in near future or just silently disappear,we are competive species,so I expect there will be many wars in future, even just now we have weapons which are able to kill hundreds of thousands and poison the land,so imagine what will we invent in future. Also spreading of Urban areas,as well as agricultural areas with even bigger poplation is reasonable.Deforestation is also easy way how to make many species extinct..looks at first signs of overfishing, now there are even species of fishes which once lived in massive schools but now are criticaly endangered, looks at what is happening in polluted south-asian rivers.Even when our species was armed just with "stones and sticks" we succesfully killed most of megafauna outside Africa and India
