Description Dark Tranquillity II

Red Cliff Point, off the coast of the Great Barrier Reef, Tropical North Queensland

This was taken on the roadside, on the coastal road to Cairns from Port Douglas. I looked out the window and saw this, pulled over and took a few brief shots without really paying any attention to detail to the camera settings, as I was standing on a main road. I was quite lucky the photos exposed properly, without the highlight of sunlight in the centre coming out over-blown. If I remember correctly I think I set it to aperture-priority.

A sequel to one of my old deviations, [link] I think it's a good measurement of my progress since then, I hope you agree aswell. Desaturated in PS and applied a cyan/blue hue to the image.

Tranquil and still... the ripples reminds me of folds in a drape rather than moving waves. Good composition, with the curve of the coast continuing in the cloud!

A calm yet edgy feel about this one. The dark tone gives it an almost cold appearance. Great.

One would think that having one dominant color throughout the photograph would make it boring but you have captured so much detail that people forget all about that. This is an awesome piece of work

Hello dear, sorry for not having commented in the past few days, and that I took so long. But unfortunately the week was very busy with me, so I hadn’t the time. But finally, here I am! Let me tell you, ever since I watched you, and ever since I’ve commented on your photos you haven’t’ seemed to let me down. You do some really nice professional nature photographs! Please keep it up

This photo is great; the tones go along very well. They are dark blue, and they set the mood very well. It’s madness with a combination of sadness. Plus, the contrast you did, which is so damn dark looks so great. Because you took it up really high, but even so, you didn’t ruin the photo. If anything, you only made it better.

Great texture in the water too, it’s quite amusing to look at it, and the same goes for the clouds, very nice texture going on, that also adds a lot to the mood of the photo. Overall nice angle, I love the angle of the rocks against the waters, it looks really nice. It’s a very nice scenery shot, indeed. Very emotive, for sure.

Last but not least, I couldn’t help but notice that sign, to the left side, to the very far back.. I’m not sure many noticed it, but it seems very important to the photo some how

Wishful-Notions [2005-02-08 20:43:32 +0000 UTC]

the first thing that attracted me to it was the gorgeous dark blue tones (i'm a sucker for that)
the name is just perfect for it, these tones in my opinion help achieve that tranquility and serenity in the brooding darkness with a break of light peaking through the clouds.

i can see the similarities in this one and the original version, both with the dark brooding skies, however i see them essentially as two works with different qualities. hard to compare
