Is this character supposed to be a male? Because he/she is wearing what seems to be a Tsukesage , an outfit that was designed specifically for women. Historically speaking, a woman wearing a Tsukesage signified to others that she was married, although this custom has fallen out of use since the Meiji Restoration. Unmarried women were known to wear a Furisode . A Women's Kimono was usually characterized by a large Koshihimo (waist band), while a Men's Kimono usually had a thin Koshihimo if any at all.
Whether these design choices were intended or not, it's still a beautiful art piece. I definitely don't mean to sound like a slanderer, and I hope you at the very least found this interesting.
