Personally, I adore what you've done with his hair. He has lovely, writhy hair that seems to have a life of its own. (unfamiliar with the character)
And I envy your ability to do shadows and depths and things. Ugh. My faces all look flat, even when I try to shade them.

|D He does in fact have sentient hair. His arms are big copper panels that double as wings and blades, so he lacks hands... so his hair moves. He's fashioned arms out of the two longest locks by his temples. The rest is kind of unruly... but yes, it is alive.
I have learned it is best to be unafraid of putting TOO much contrast in your shading; that's the best way to overcome flatness in my experience. This started off REALLY contrast-heavy and I worked upward from that.

This is one of the things most artists get wrong, actually. It's kind of amusing.
All his refs are white and yet he still turns out like, caramel brown when artists draw him. The dreads and the accent apparently mislead people?
